LisaMarie, I am having a hard time with the water pre op, so I imagine it must be even harder as a post op. Maybe you could set reasonable, doable goals for yourself and increase them slowly? Good luck sweetie....By the way, you LOOK MAHVELOUS! ...really you do! Just beautiful! Hugs, Amy

LisaMarie, On days when I feel I just don't want to drink ALL tha****er I set mini goals throughout the day and it sure helps! I make sure by this time that I need to have the water bottle empty so I just have it with me and sip, sip and sip taking breaks but making sure I get it all in pretty quickly (as I can) to make sure it is gone. You can also try adding real lemon to the water bottle, sometimes it help as well. If you try the mini goals it should work for you....but take out a little time to down the water and it moves faster. What I do still have problems with is the weekends when I am running all the time and I am no around a bathroom, that seems to be a problem for me but I try to get the water in when I am home, once again trying down it in a short amount of time. I hope that helps some ~hugs~ Debra P

Lisa, I have a really hard time drinking my water, too. I hate it.......... I had my surgery in August, and in October was in the hospital three times before I was finally diagnosed with kidney stones. While mine have either passed without noticing, or are still with me, and therefore have not been analyzed to see what caused them, i really believe the main reason I got them was I did not drink my water! I was really bad about it. Since then, I have done two things: I carry water with me wherever I go.....this way I am sipping it constantly. While I do not always get 64 ounces in, I come close every day. I add lemon juice to make it more palatable. I have added more fiber to my diet....grape nuts stirred into yogurt, etc. Another cause of kidney stones is a diet high in protein with not enough fiber. So..........drink your water. Drink your water.....drinik your water. Kidney stone pain is the worst pain I have ever experienced. SH

LisaMarie: Can you tell us what it is abou****er that is keeping you from your goal? Does it hurt? Taste bad? Forget to do it? Combo of all 3? A few tips I tell newbies (may help you for a week or two to get on track?) #1) Take a 2 L soda bottle empty and fill it each time you sip some fluid with same amount this is a great visual as to how far to go and how much u have drank, set midday to have it 1/2 gone!!!! #2) Keep a journal of each hour in a day for fluids. Write down what you drink in the hour or use a check box style. I also prepare my food/fluid for the day, packing what I need for work. AND Drinking out of routine also helps, I know what is gone at what time to get my fluids in (for instance IF my water bottle#1 isn't gone by say 8am I am behind etc). Keep post-it notes everwhere saying sip sip sip or where is your water? May jog memory. Freeze waterbottles 1/2 w/ water then fill with water to stay cool. Sometimes people jazz up water with lemon, lime or those packets of TRUE LEMON/or TRUE LIME at http://www.truelemon.com/ OR http://www.flavors2go.com/ Flavors2Go are designed to offer the delicate taste of real fruit, not the heavy, artificial fruit taste that people have come to accept. Or try on ice or warmed water? I know pure water is best but fluids count so try Crystal lite (Wal-Mart) any variety (decaf tea, lemonade, fruit punch etc), diet Tang (Wal-Mart) diet Kool-Aid any variety (Wal-Mart). OR Carb options & Wyler's Light powdered beverages. NEW Wal-Mart-brand called great value, 4-C's and Crystal lite have to go sizes! To add to a 16 oz bottle water! NEAT!**NOTE MANY PEOPLE WATER DOWN EVEN MOR FINDING IT TOO SWEET***, flavored bottle water, decaf teas (cold/warm)..Variety helps! Even a bottle a day of Propel Fitness water (has a few carbs/calories but a nice change) Of course avoidance of kidney stones is one HUGE reason (literature points to fact that WLSers are at increased risk) ~~~~~~~~ How about a non food reward after 1 week of meeting your fluid goals! (incentives always work for me!) Pedicure, manicure, new blouse, new makeup, facial, massage, etc.... Hi Jamie, i think its a combination of things. Alot of the time i forget about it, then by the time i remember its 9pm and i am trying to make up the difference. Another reason is i dont like it. I have tried a few of the crystal lite flavors and i used to love them pre op but dont like them now. My tastes have changed so much following surgery. Excuses Excuses, believe me i know how imprortant drinking my water is. Being a nurse, haveing only one kidney and dealing with re occuring kidney stones you would think i would behave better. I have done better these last couple of days. I have increased my intake a bit and hopefully i will continue to do so. Thanks for your help and suggestions i will try them. Have a great day!
