My surgery is scheduled for Tues Feb 21 st and wednesday I developed a sore throat. At work last tuesday everyone was coughing and were hoarse. At my pre-op work up the PA recommended zinc Gluconate drops. I have been taking echinachea and goldenseal liquid and the Zinc drops. I called in sick at work yesterday and for tomorrow, I do not need to be exposed to anymore germs. I work as a nurse in a skilled nursing facility so residents and staff are sick-sick-sick. I have been resting most of the day. I did make a doctors appointment for this afternoon to see what they think. I have also been on my knees praying-for quick healing. It does not seem to be getting worse and the staff at work said what they had was viral. Rest-chicken broth-zinc drops-echinachea/goldenseal syrup-rest and PRAY PRAY PRAY If anyone can think of anything else -suggestions are welcome.

Tara, best of luck on your surgery...only one additional item that I can think of is plenty of water to keep hydrated. This is a good idea to do before surgery anyway at least up until the time you cannot eat or drink anything! Get as much rest as you can in the hospital and breath deeply as much and often as possible! Walk as well! Take care, and keep us posted. LindaM

keep drinking fluids as long as you do not have a fever I think everything will be ok. I am a nurse also and I would try and stay home if you can. Good luck

I had sinus/ear problems 5 days before my surgery. They told me at pre-op it was the decision of the Anesthesiaologist. When I talked with him he told me as long as I did not have an infection and my airway was clear I would be ok. Good luck on Tuesday!
