I am still very excited about my upcoming surgery set for Feb 21st. I had to see the nutritionist for a pre-op visit, I started the two week lowfat liquid diet yesterday. I can also have lettuce, cucumbers, veggies except high carb veggies but no dressing. Diet drinks, tea, broth and diet jello. Next Wednesday I have three appointments first I go see the surgeon at 11:00am in the morning then off to the hospital for pre-op work up than back to see the surgeon at 2:30pm. I forgot to ask what tests will be done next week. I have been so thrilled that my insurance approval happened so quickly and the surgery is right around the corner I forgot. Can anyone give me an idea?

Hi Tara, Every surgeon requires different pre-op tests--so I can't help you there--but I did want to say a prayer for you to have an uneventful surgery and a speedy recovery. Be Blessed and see you soon on the loser side! Marian S.C. 242.4/182.8/goal 125-130??

Tara: My surgeon had labs, ultrasound of gallbladder, Upper GI endoscopy as preop test FOR ME. Each surgeon has their own requirements and it is also based on medical comorbidities. Some need endocrine clearnance, some need pulmonary clearance and a sleep apnea study (overnight test), some require cardiac clearance, some require venous studies of legs, some require psychological clearance, some require mandatory 2 support group meetings, some require mandatory nutrition classes, some require preop wt loss (5-10%), some put their patients on medifast for 4-12 weeks +/- preopl....Hard to say, labs, and ultrasound of gallbladder are most common for all surgeons though! Wishing you well! Thanks, Jamie and Marian I have already had abdominal ultrasound, upper GI endoscope and a echo cardiogram. Sleep apnea not required. Already had clearance from nutritionist and psychologist which was required before I had insurance approval. I have been thinking that it is probably chest x-ray and blood work. Also I am already on a two week low fat liquid diet because the surgery is scheduled for February 21st at 9:15am in the morning. Tara

I had my pre-op work done at the hospital today for my surgery date of Wednesday, 2/15. They did blood work, a brief exam and a EKG [because I did not have one in the past 30 days]. My PCP also asked for a chest x-ray [I brought a script to the hospital and had to coax the PA to order it, she didn't think it was necessary, she also wanted to talk about getting herself life insurance the whole time ... not even sure how that came up!]and a urinalysis ... I had to go to the lab for the UA because they don't do it in the hospital. Thinks are starting to feel real, like this is really going to happen. I hope I don't have some lurking unknown infection that shuts me down. Anyway, besides the wait [which was actually enjoyable because I made friends with two women in the waiting room - all of us changing our lives, one having her third child tomorrow, her first boy; the other very young woman having a hysterectomy] ... the tests were no big deal. xosm
