10 days to RNY REMEMBER WHEN?
Grouchetta Grinch (LOL love it!)
I don't have children (mine are 4 legged/furry, and say meow) so I can't help you on how to tell a child. Maybe say Mommy has to go to see a docotor and get better and make it a really exciting/positive thing, that mommy will have an ouchie on belly when she gets home but will get better, enlist thier help in postop care, take mystery out of it, how this is a positive thing , so mommy can be active. How they can be helpful I guess? just some ideas....Call and talk with her if possible to keep connection so she feels safe...
Hospital:
Bring own comfy pillow
small oscillating fan (I was hot evenin october!)
bath robe
slippers (slide in kind u wont bend ver to put em on!)
crystal lite if hospital doesnt carry
lipbalm!!!
book/cd player/crossowrd/circle a word.
journal/pen to write first experiences!!!
They have hygeine supplies i did shower last day there, set of comfy loose sweats/clothes for home.
They should provide vits, if surgeon has u on right away,
for home chewable multivits, powdered/chewable calcium citrate (upcal d powder or bariatric advantage chewable) NOT TUMS Or viactiv, wrong kind of calcium that is carbonate and needs acidic environment to be absorbed!
www.vitalady.com has both upcald or BA chewables,
www.bariatricadvantage.com sells the chewables also
or www.bethsproteinboutique has upcald powder! she is local in NY
b12 sublingual I use springvalley brand form walmart
Best 2 u!

My doc said Tums 3-4x a day is OK, is this wrong???
Am I hearing everyone right that my 3 year old won't be allowed to visit me in the hospital ... I can only talk with her on the phone? Gee, I have never left for long, just the sleep apnea test. She will be with my husband, but I don't know how to explain that I will be GONE for a few days [I really thought she would be able to come visit me].
My mom is an RN and is staying with me at least the first night or two. I'm not really worried about the IPod getting stolen since it is small enough to carry with me. I am worried about the CPAP machine, gosh, I didn't think I'd be worrying about theft on top of everything else.
I have my pre-surgical testing tomorrow, I guess I can ask some questions then. The time has been moving so S*L*O*W for me, I feel like I'm going crazy. I know it's going to be next week already and I'm probably going to feel like I didn't take enough time to get stuff done LOL.
Thanks for all the advice. The support here has been wonderful. xosm
Surgeons are real good cutters, but not so good with nutirion from my experience.
Calcium carbonate (tums/viactiv etc) needs an ACIDIC environment for absorbtion, RNY eliminates most/all acid in our pouch (good cure for GERD)....so it is great to make oxylate kidney stones, but not for bone. Calcium citrate is prefered for wlsers as it needs no acid for absorbtion.
want more info I have plenty of articles to back this up!
and it is in the bariatric literature also. I discussed at length w/ my bariatrican/clinical nutrition doctor who I see for life..........
We malabsorb caclcium so need to suppliment!
