Hi, First of all, here is a prayer for an uneventful surgery and a speedy recovery! I had rny(laproscopic) and I have friends who have had both lap band and rny. The intial recovery is generally the same--you will have some abdominal pain and you will be weak. It will take about two weeks before you can eat anything of substance. I was on liquids for two weeks pre-op and two weeks post op. Then I finally got to eat a scrambled egg (the best food I ever tasted). I was feeling really good about a month after the surgery. There are only tiny little scars (six of them) after surgery. My friend (the one who had a lapband has trouble with food getting stuck just above the band (and she has developed a liking for sweets) Whatever you do, stay away from sweets--especially icecream--because you don't experience the dumping syndrome. there is a book that you might like to read Click here: Amazon.com: The Real Skinny on Weight Loss Surgery: An Indispensable Guide to What You Can Really Expect!: also Before and after Both books are informative Be Blessed, MarianS.C. 242.4/184/goal125-130 ???

Well hello Beth, congratulations and good luck! I am closing in on three weeks post op lap band. I am down 30 lbs from my pre-op weight of 282 and now hovering around 253. That includes my pre-op 5% weight loss of 14 lbs. I am still on liquids and it has gotten old quickly! My experience post-op: Recovery room was not fun! No pain just a real crappy feeling typical of any surgery. I was in and out of surgery in under an hour! After recovery I was rolled back to my room where they made me get out of the stretcher to walk into my room and get into my bed! Again pain was not bad just very very fuzzy! I stayed the night in the hospital (Highly reccomend over night stay for you) where the nurses took great care of me. I needed morphene just one time not too bad. Most difficult part was avoiding any nausea that might lead to vomiting. With my surgeon vomiting is not an option as it can cause slippage. So that weighed heavely on my mind for a few days as well. Only other common issue is gas pain! During surgery they pump gas into your abdomen cavity to help them perform the surgery and it will most certainly cause discomfort pos-op for as long as aweek or two. Mine was in my right shoulder and made laying in bed impossible. For the first 5 nights I slept in my recliner. Today I am feeling good and happy! Good luck to you Kenny
