Also, I am suppose to get in 64 oz. of water but I seem to only get in between 40 and 50 oz.'s I sip all day and I still don't seem to get in enough water. HELP!!!!!!!!!! Kathleen

Kathleen,
It is ok at the beginning to not get all in because you are still so new. I am sure your insides are still swollen but give it time and try, that is all you can do. Also I would get samples of protein drinks to help, I know I had so many samples until I found a couple that I really like. I got them at bariatriceating.com......I wish you all the best and just remember to have tha****er with you ALL the time and sip, sip, sip. ~hugs~

Many people feel Coffee/Tea (Caffeinated) should be avoided totally postop for at least a year, (mild diuretic effect can lead to dehydration quicker, esp. if not taking in enough other fluids, it is a gastric irritant (think ulcers in a new tender healing pouch), some studies suggest an appettie STIMULANT (*I now others report its appetite suppressant effects), and it can deter the absorbtion of things like various vitmains, minerals BUT ESPECIALLY calcium which we are already at risk to malabsorb and develop osteoporosis), AND IRON which we are all at risk for iron deficiency anemia postop. The 'rule of thumb again' for many is IF you drink 1 cup caffeine you need 1.5-2 cups MORE of water to replace it.
It is a PERSONAL decision one makes to do caffeine or not based on knowing the risks involved, keep it 2 hrs away from most vits.minerals if chosing to drink it is my best guide.
Crystal lite, diet kool-aid, decaf tea/coffee (although the tannins can still effect absorbtion of vits/minerals) are counted in a FLUID total for even non-wlsers. Pure water is best according to many sources, but variety is key probably to gettting fluids in.
