Yes indeed that is dumping. You don't have to vomit or get the runs to dump. That cherry slushie was probably loaded with sugar. Guess you won't be doing that again.... LOL

Yeah dumping can have any or all of those symptoms. I don't dump on anything, but I spoke to someone who to someone who told me that he didn't dump for the first two years after his surgery. Then at two years out, he suddenly started dumping, and because you don't dump on something today, doesn't mean you won't dump on it the next time. Guess we all have to learn by trial and error.

HI, Yep!!! That's classical DUMPIMG--Our surgeon explained that dumping is caused by a large dose of sugar being introduced into the system. Insulin is released and then you go into a severe shock--the dumping can be runs, fainting , vomitting, sweats, headache or stomach cramps. There may even be other things that can effect a person! Thank goodness that it is temporary and that we learn not to do it to ourselves again! Be Blessed and be careful, MarianS.C. 242.4/186.2/ goal 125-130???

Claire: We don't have to tell you the dangers of DRINKING calories (defeating the tool & regain, dumping)...YES this was dumping...here is more info: http://www.sabariatric.com/effects.php These are some problems that patients may experience that do not fall into the medical category of "complications." Nevertheless they arise as issue that some patients have to deal with, so we aim to provide proactive information. Dumping Syndrome One of the key features that helps a patient control calorie intake after Gastric Bypass is the fact that food leaves the tiny stomach pouch only into a section of the small intestine called the jejunum. This pathway for the food is the "Roux-en-Y" part of the full name for the procedure, and it matters because the jejunum is simply not made to handle concentrated calories, especially refined sugar. The effect of this is that if a person consumes sugar after a gastric bypass (such as ice cream, chocolate candy, or a soda) the presence of the sugar in this segment of intestine will create a reaction called dumping syndrome that affects the whole body. An episode of dumping shows up as palpitations (heart racing), a sweaty and clammy feeling, cramping abdominal pain, diarrhea, and then a feeling of weakness during which the person simply must lay down for an hour or so until it passes. Dumping syndrome is not dangerous, but it feels awful. It is not exactly a side effect, in the sense that works in a beneficial way by steering patients away from that type of food. Patients with an Adjustable Gastric Band should not have dumping syndrome. http://www.sabariatric.com/gastric_bypass.php Dumping syndrome can be caused after gastric bypass by intake of simple carbohydrates (sugar, or some starches). Dumping syndrome is characterized by palpitations (fast heart rate), a clammy feeling, queasiness and nausea, sometimes vomiting, and sometimes diarrhea. Usually the patient feels weak, and must lie down for 30-60 minutes. Dumping syndrome is not dangerous but it feels absolutely horrible. For best weight loss patients should stay away from sugar and other carbohydrates - the thought of dumping syndrome seems to help change habits away from these types of food.
