John: I had my WLS 3+ yrs ago at Albany Medical Center. I needed: PCP clearance (my own doc to say I was physically ok to have surgery), Psychologist approval (one of my choosing),Clinical Nutritionist (MD & Dietician) to say I was ready and lost my required 10%), Upper GI endoscopy (my choosing I live closer to Saratoga so I had mine done in Glens Falls actually done really quick vs backlog I found in Albany). I also needed labs (I had done locally at Saratoga Hopital) and needed a Gallbladder Ultrasound, again at Saratoga...That is all *I* needed for my age/health/comorbidities. Some people need sleep test (polysomogrophy) to check for sleep apnea, others need Cardiac, pulmonary clearance, some need endocrinologist clearance, some need other tests based on their issues! Surgeons differ in their requests/test and where I suppose they want them from done/timing (for instance cardiac clearnace for AMC now needs to be 30 days w/i survgical date).. Check with your program for their requests! John, the pre-op testing before approval was done by different Dr's, my surgeon gave me a list of who he would recommend. Some I used others I had to find one in my area because I am living upstate and came down to the island for my surgery. Just wake sure you check with what every Dr you will be seeing to see if they know about WLS, some did not and would not be a good Dr to clear someone. Now, after you have your date and you need to go to the hospital for pre-op testing a couple of days before surgery, then you go to the hospital that you are having your surgery done at for all of that. Take care hun and best of luck. Debra P

Hello John, My surgeons office made all the appts. with all the Dr.'s that he required me to see except for one and that was the Pshycologist appt. I had to make it but he pretty much chose the Dr. that I had to see . All my testing was done at Ellis hospital except for the sleep study that I will be getting in Febuary at St. Clares Hospital . All surgeons are different though so may have to do all the work yourself or just some of it . I wish you the best with everything . Take Care.... and Carol

Hi John, I had surgery in Rockville Centre at Mercy Medical Center with Dr. Garber, however, all of my preop tests were done in Albany except for the psychologist and nutritionist who I saw as a part of Dr. Garber's team. Good luck. LindaM
