Instone Pudding
PAT:
Hello!
I think the farther out you get the longer you can wait to have fluid after food. MEANING THIS: early on (1st 6 mo or so) the pouch is still swollen...as it matures....so to speak, the ability to eat larger varieties and quantities of food happens...SO it may take more food to feel full and to stay full longer they recommend (pouch rules) http://www.waynesmith.net/lapband/faq/pouch_management.htm to advance the time to drinking to 2 hrs. I have personally used this to my benefit. It is a balancing act for fluid so as your able to handle larger volumes of fluid (vs early on sip sip!) say drink 8 oz in 15min or so then push the time out....That is a general see how it is for you kind of thing. NOW I never understood the wait 30 min to drink prior to eating other than early early postop like 1st month) because fluid passes straight thru the pouch (thing a funnel w/ no stopper) the fluid will pass then eat on top should be ok. It has been for me so far, I can sip right up to my meal then eat an feel full. I guess early postop the stoma is swollen and fluid may fill you, but usually that passes quickly.....*I speak in generalities as there are no absolutes w/ anything! ..pouch rules actually says 15 min to wait after fluid to eat? I fluid load up to a meal it helps fill that Roux limb
I have not bought this Stallone Pudding, for a few reasons, one I am cheap! it is up to $2/can some places, nope too expen$ive for me! LOL

Second it is still FOOD PROTEIN meaning how much do we absorb? IT still needs stomach acid/enzymes to be digested/absorbed so that 20g a can? It is NOT the same as the 20G in a predigested whey protein shake....I agree low carb which I'd like seeing as I follow a south beach type of lifestyle....an ocassional treat may be ok, BUT I WOULD not say I count it toward my usable protein....
Third it is milk protein and soy: (less bioavailable than whey even if some is absorbed..other people need to avoid soy for various reasons so just FYI!)
Ingredients: Water, Calcium Caseinate (A Milk Derivative), Soy Protein Isolate, Soybean Oil, Sodium Chloride, Dipotassium Phosphate, Artificial Flavor, Carrageenan, Dextrose, Tricalcium Phosphate, Sucralose and Acesulfame Potassium.
Not bad overall ...100cal 2g fat 16 carb for the 6.4 oz can....BUT pudding is a 'slider food' meaning does not stick with us long the farther out we are from surgery! Meaning this should constitute a meal..it certainly wouldnt make me full or stay with me...IF that is what your looking for.....
Just points to ponder..again not worst thing out there but don't get hopes up it is a great protein source or a good filler food!
many say eating 5 sm meals a day works and indeed I agree in many aspects if this doesnt turn into grazing..I for instance do this:
Whey protein shake 5am
lo carb yogurt (6oz) 8-9am *yes I know slider food! I do not get full w/ this!
salad w/ 3-4 oz protein 1230pm
3pm perhaps 1 small apple w/ 2 oz cheese
6pm dinner 4-5 oz meat/protien 1/4 c green veggie and either 1/4c sweet tater or mashed cauliflower or another green veggie
8pm protein shake #2
I do 16 cups fluid day 8 cups pure water at least rest decaf tea and diet koolaid/crystal lite..
IF the pudding works into your day great...I'd say 2-3 hrs after a meal as a new mini meal!
