Private Room????????
IN my hospiotl the bariatric patients get private rooms due to all the care and checks that need to be done. SHARING a room the other person wouldnt get one drop of rest. EVEN the other bariatric patient that had surgery the same day as me wasnt in my room, next door in her own private room. THIS might be how my hospitol worked it but the nurses were on top of my care every hour i was there constantly checking me, giving meds, takeing stats.....it was alot even to be preped to get up
from the bed with all the attached equipement i had on ....
I was also in a room right accross from the nurses station for more
watching!
GOOD LUCK

Regina,
I had surgery on Long Island at Mercy, they has some private rooms and some shared, I lucked out I guess and got a private room. I would ask your surgeon about that. Wishing you all the best!

The hospital I went to did have some private rooms, but I was put in a shared room, with a woman that was having serious complications from WLS that she had done several months before. I did converse with her alot, but I do think that they should have been more aware of who they put people in with. I didn't have a problem with it myself, but at the time I had surgery my husband was extremely scared for me, and he did not need to see and hear all the problems she was having. I can say that the care I recieved there was excellent, and they were on top of everything. I do not know how much extra it would be for a private room, I think it may be different coverage depending on what insurance you have also. You may want to call the hospital or your surgeon to find out what their procedures are.

I wish I'd had a private room! My roommate was a sweet older woman (who also had WLS), but she would leave her bedpan in the toilet (ick) and every time I had to go I had to PICK UP HER BED PAN and put it on the floor...YUCK! The hospital where I had my surgery is way too crowded for anyone to have private rooms I think. I had the best surgeons, but the hospital needs help! It isn't the cleanest!

They always put me in a private room b/c I am on isolation from other patients. I have a colonized state of MRSA bacteria that lives in my spit and I will have it forever. Everyone who comes into my hospital room has to wear a gown/gloves/mask etc. They only do that try to not spread it to another sick patient...like they did to me. They believe I got it when I was in the ICU b/c it is airborne and from contact.
I didnt go in the ICU testing positive but I came out positive and for also for influenzia. I know lovely right. Thanks North Shore-manhasset ICU dept.
I look at it this way, at least I do not have to hear someone moaning and groaning all night and my husband stays in the room w/me all night.
