WELL every appointment is different...depends on the specialists you see: MY nutritionist...went over my pre op diet to loose weight....and then told me about all the post op stages of eating. We went over it in detail and of course she came to see me in the hospitol again to give me writen materials and go over my stages of eating. my pscy. evaluation was actaully a joke....she went over the risks of the surgery...we talked about how i plan to cope with eating challenges post op and few things on why i ate....my appointment was short and sweet and clearance was giving. HOPE this helps but everyone specialists are different! GOOD LUCK LISA

Gen, Every one is different but mostly they just want to make sure you understand what you are doing with having the surgery, you know the risks and all.... I wish you the best ~hugs~ Debra P

I have also chosen Dr. OMalley for my surgeon. I did my seminar in October, my phych evaluation in November and also my nutritionist in November. I am currently doing a 6 month nutrition class because I didn't have three 3 month Dr. supervised diet attempts in my medical records (Lord knows I have tried!!) I was not aware of the 6 month class when I made my nutrition appointment, so I was a little disapointed when she told me that. But, I have only 3 more appointments to go and I feel it's to my benefit to learn all I can in these 6 month classes. I hope this has helped!! Barb

Barb, Was that a requirement of Dr. O'Malley's or a requirement of your insurance company? Just curious. I have just started my journey, I will be attending Dr. O'Malley's seminar on February 23rd. Dee

thank you all for the responses. see i have been on this roller coaster since last january(05).. i started the process then and was given my seminar date., i made my pschy. and nutrition appt. only to find out 2 days before my seminar in july that my insurance chose to add a rider.and bumped me off wsl untill i completed a weight management course. i went to my first one and then my mom got sick and had surgery on her heart(and she only weighs 99 lbs) so i didnt have the time to do any more classes. and i also changed insurances on 1/5/06. so i am starting all over again. and hopefully things go better this time.i have been morbidly obese since i was 15 years old and all i want is for someone to give me a chance to turn my health around..there are alot of my family that are obese and have so many health issues and i dont want to be another one added. i have problems with my lower back, my knees, high cholesterol, insomnia, and i get short of breath when i exert myself..i have been on my pcp for the last 12 years to let me have this surgery and when she finally gives in .....my insurance screwed it up. it is just so frustrating..does anyone have EMPIRE PPO (united health)? thats what i got and wonder if they refuse alot of people..sorry i vented so much...its just a long road. frustrating!!!!! i need to keep the faith and hope for the best..

Hi, new here> I have a consultation with Dr. Graber in New Hartford on March 21st and I too, have so many questions as to how to get this process rolling. Someone said that they had to attend 6 months of nutrition classes b/c they hadn't had a history of 3 months of Dr supervised dieting? Is this for insurance purposes or the Dr's rule? I have United Healthcare Select POS and have been on so many diets. I guess I could provide records that I was in Weigh****chers for over 6 months at one time but other than that I have no "official" records of my dieting other than a couple of weeks on Redux in the mid 90's. Has anyone else had this issue?
