Dr. Shawn Garber Patients?
Has anyone used this doctor. Dr. Garber is from NY Bariatric Group in New Hyde Park. I've done my own research and am happy with findings and I've met with him. Thought he was God....but want to know past experiences from others like you. Would like to know the good, the bad, and the ugly.

I have been viewed by Dr Garber post surgery and spoken with both him and Dr Holover.. and Dr Garber arranges for a visiting nurse to visit you at home
3 times in the first 2 weeks. The visiting nurse told me- she has never seen any of his patients have complications.
I would suggest if you don't have first hand experience with Dr Garber
its really inappropriate to respond, don't you think?
Im also in a support group with many of Dr Adaniels patients at Good Sam Hospital, and even though I have met him and think he is personal and
genuine and very professional, I cannot address any questions the same way
his patients could- very simply- because EVERY SURGEON has different
rules pre and post op. And that you should know.
I am 2 years post-op, so I think I know that every surgeon is different. You're entitled to your opinion. I was only responding to what I had been told. I can only imagine what you would have said if I had said what my surgeon said about him and since you've become so hostile I won't repeat it.
I think I'm entitled to say what I've been told and not for you to decide what is inappropriate.
LMAO. Getting a little defensive are we? I tell you what- you go ahead
and write exactly what YOU WERE TOLD and what you would like to say
about a surgeon that you have NO experience with. Then I wil take it
and show it to Dr Garber and let him decide. I will be seeing him
next week- so make sure you post it before then.
Oh and one other thing- If you do not think these pages are monitored
by the individual surgeons you need an alarm to wake you up.
Oh and the reason I say that? because I know a patient that was
unhappy with Dr Gellman and was writing in her profile that she was not
happy and was suffering naseau and thought there was a possible stricture.
She thought everything she wrote in her profile- was HER OPINION and her experience and who had the right to delete WORDS and PARAGRAPHS
out of her profile? Even though the items were deleted within a day
of being posted- there were LEGALITIES involved about what she could
even say in her profile about her surgeon.
SO this is a public forurm and yes it can get Legal like court almost.
Like alsmost sued for defamation of reputation and character.
Donna,
Thank you for all your advice and I totally agree with you 100%. I used to live in Babylon, Frederick Shores, to be exact. Where are you? Dr. Garber, although I only met once, answers all my emails in a matter of an hour or two. Its great! What's most important to me is to have a skilled surgeon, seeing him afterwards would be nice, but if I'm doing well, It wouldn't bother me to not see him.
Hi Lisa!
I am all for getting as much information and being as educated as you can before surgery. The only other time I was hospitalized prior- was when I had my son, natural delivery, so I had nothing else to compare this to.
I also have 2 cousins who are Doctors, and one is a surgeon at Mercy Hospital, where Garber & Holover usually do the surgery. I had also looked at Dr Vohra in Oceanside and have had friends with successful surgery through him, and I personally know Amy Noe his PA there, but after several meetings with Dr V and attending his support meetings, I did not choose him. What worried me, was at the support group, I heard postops talking about their strictures, and just not one meeting, this was @ 5meetings..so I continued researching and came to Dr Garber. Dr Garber was trained by Dr Wingate who originated this Lap procedure (?) He is the doctor who did Carnie Wilson's surgery.. Anyway, I was advised at my 2nd consult that I would need to have my gallbladder out same time. This scared me as I was not expecting to hear that. He allayed my worries, and explained that I was riddled with gallstones and if I didnt have it out, later on with the weight loss, I would have problems. And many times, you will see, postings where post ops are having problems or doubled over and being told months after surgery to go back for the gallbladder removal.
Im very thankful I made the right decision for me, and thats all you can do
Lisa, is make the right decision for you. Go with your instincts.
Hugs
Donna
