Hello all. I am a 29 year old wife and mom of 3 children under age 6. I have been heavy my whole life and for about 2 years now, have been considering surgery. It was very a hard choice for me because the thought of getting sick and not being around for my children haunted me for awhile. But then I said to myself, It was time to think about me for a second and put the family aside. My weight is beginning to take a toll on my health and being around for my children means everything to me, to be able to bend down and tie their shoes, to swim with them in the summer time and sit on the beach with my husband in a bathing suit, to sit on a toilet seat without fear of breaking it, LOL....to get dressed without one of my kids asking why I'm so big. Well this past week, I've began my pre-ops and can't sleep because of total anxiety. My biggest fear is the insurance company not covering the surgery. I have insurance through my husbands local and Magnacare. The surgery and precert has to go to the board of trustees. I just hope they agree on it and see things my and the doctors way. Any advice would greatly be appreciated. Lisa Ronkonkoma, NY

This is great that there is a support group so close to me. Is this through the doctor you used for your surgery? What doctor did you use? I chose Dr. Shawn Garber in New Hyde Park. Have you heard of him? I would love to come to the support group tonight. If my husband gets home on time, I'll come. Please give me time, address and directions. This site is wonderful and I am so impressed over the outpour of interest and concern and prayers. Great! Lisa Orslini..........Dreaming of a thinner life Ronkonkoma, NY

Lisa, Congrats on moving forward... You will be having surgery before you know it. I wanted to wish you all the best on getting your Ins Approval. Does your surgeon know what is required with Magnacare? They should give you some direction, the rest you just have to wait on but remember if they do not approve you the first time please stick it out and fight, sometimes they like to just come back and say no but when they are pushed most get it approved. I wish you all the best hun and keep us posted ~hugs~ Debra P

Hi Lisa, Good for you! This is the best decision you can make for yourself. I pray that you will be able to get the insurance coverage and I wish you lots of luck in the process! The only advice I can offer is to go forward and fight if they deny you for any reason. My policy had a specific exclusion and I ended up having to pay myself, but I would do it all over again and at twice the price if I had to. Congratulations on getting this far! Robin

It's good to hear from others that all these feelings are normal. The doctor I'm using is Dr. Garber. Have you heard anything negative about him and if so please share? Thanks Lisa

I have lost 150lbs since my surgery (2/7/05), a total of 180lbs since seeing Dr Garber for the first time on 9/23/04 and I feel like a TOTALLY different person!! Please let me know if I can answer any questions. Also, I am pretty close to you, Im in Holbrook!! Good Luck! Lisa 371/341/191/140
