MiSs ChAnTeL: I can appreciate your struggle, redundant skin is a MAJOR side-effect of WLS! I do beleive we are much healthier not fitting in our skin vs fitting in it being Morbidly Obese, but it is psychologically and physically distressing I know! My insrance didn't cover anything, I self paid (Put on a 0% interest, no balance transfeew fee card for a yr, paid 1/2 then balance transfered it to another 0% card for another yr, it will be paid off in May! this yr all $13K!!) I am from upstate NY, do not know any Plastic surgeons in NYC area, but I can recommend a few tips. Mine was Dr. Joshua King! I can not rave enough about him! www.albanyplasticsurgeons.com ..You can Start asking local Wlsers you may know from an in person group who they'd recommend (CHEAP IS NOT ALWAYS BEST!) Somone who works withus post Wlsers is ideal... Then start calling, MOST/MANY Plastic surgeons require you pay a consult fee up front say $50-100 +/-, mostly refundable if you have an operation w/ them. NOW I can not say if Medicaid will or won't pay for a panniculectomy (see http://www.bariatric-surgery.info/panniculectomy-surgical-procedure.htm for differences) (removal of excess skin on stomach ONLY) there is no muscle tightening or anything w/ a Panni. (That would be an abdominoplasty or tummy tuck 2 different surgeries!).. http://www.tuckthattummy.com/ is good site for info on a TT (I suggest yoube educated and informed before any surgery!!).. Your plastic surgeon should be "Board Certified" by the American Board of Plastic Surgery; http://www.abplsurg.org/ The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), established in 1931, is the largest plastic surgery specialty organization in the world, and is here to guide you through this process. http://www.plasticsurgery.org/find_a_plastic_surgeon/index.cfm to search for one certified! Do you have medical necessity? That is proving point to most insurances.. Things like Severe Back Pain (documented over past feew yrs), that persists despite Wt loss?, Chronic infections (Fungal) in folds of skin needing MD care and meds/crems (prescribed), skin breakdown? The more TRAIL you have with medical providers the better it is (vs trying to say I have these issues, they will say where is the proof?) IF you have these rashes take your own pictures! Seek treatment form providers to prove it! Ins co are about MONEY if it will cost them more to have u treat the redundant skin with creams, md apts, chiropractor visits etc they will likely pay for the surgery! http://www.sleepingswan.com/articles/Panniculectomy_Surgery_Information.htm Now A general price for TUMMY TUCK: (BTW my surgeon quoted $3,500 fee) ***remember if self pay there is a SURGEON fee, an Anesthesia Fee and a facility fee!** http://www.ineed2know.org/plastic-surgery-costs.htm?referrer=adwords Tummy tuck (Abdominoplasty) $4,739 *surgeon fee only http://beautysurg.com/learn/general_fees.html abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) $2000-$8000 *surgeon fee only http://www.plasticsurgery4u.com/prices.html Tummy Tuck Abdominoplasty $3800 - tightens skin and removes extra fat/*surgeon fee only http://www.cosmeticplasticsurgerystatistics.com/costs.html Tummy Tuck Fees: (*I do not have a cost for Panni, it is less though) Total Price: $5,000-$9,000 Surgeons fee: $4,200 Anesthesiologist: $500 Facility fee: $700 Average Total Cost: $6,400 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Here are a few yahoo groups to join and OH ps forum! http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/GastricBypass-PlasticSurgery/ http://groups.yahoo.com/group/WLSandPlasticSurgery/ http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ossgplasticsurgery2 http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/plasticsurgery/ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ PHOTOS: http://www.plasticsurgery4u.com/procedure_folder/abdominoplasty7.html http://www.sleepingswan.com/articles/Panniculectomy-Pictures.htm ~~~~~~~~~~~~ APPEAL LETTERS: http://www.mygastricbypass.com/appeals.htm Take Care, Jamie Lap RNY 10/9/02 Dr. Singh 320/163 5'9'' (lost 45# before surgery) Plastics 6/9/04 & 11/11/2005 Dr. King "Being happy doesn't mean everything's perfect, it just means you've decided to see beyond the imperfections!"

woops, I meant to say Medicare primary and Medicaid is for outpatient, so I guess the plastic surgery if it is done in a hospital where I have to stay, its covered by medicare if medically necessary and by medicaid if its outpatient and medically necessary.
