Lorraine: HI! I used to use the power crunch bars (earlier postop) (and various other protein cookies/bars)..I wanted to add: There is a thought in WLS community that any protein bar/cookie will not give us the protein (we cant extract it so to speak) we need due to it (as any food) being bound up, needing to be digested to be absorbed (remember w/ RNY we have little/no stomach acid and bypass 4# or so of intestines where much digestion/absorbtion takes place esp. protein).... especially early on when malabsorbtion is highest (of calroeis****il the body adapts learning to live w/ what it has *adaption*, the sm intestines have been documenteed to LENGTHEN, Growing more folds for absorption as well as more villi to absorb also..(One reason many recommend supplimenting with protein (whey) shakes for life to trick body into beleivingit is getting nourished so it does not have to ADAPT!)...and why the wt loss stops and many start to regain ! So many feel we do not get the protein benefit from these. Also many feel they can become glorified candybars...I know once one filled me I know I could probably eat many many more now as they are not dense or heavy. *I choose not to find out!YIKES That is why many recommend the whey protein shakes, they are highly bioavailable and PREDIGESTED! which means we absorb them almost immediately! (no acid or digestive juices needed!) just some points to ponder, we all have to do what works for us, I know I don't rely on these or any bars anymore for my protein, and I try and steer clear even though @ only 180 cal 8g fat 8g carbs 4g protein these seem to trigger cravings in me for more sweets. I know we are all different and things change the farther we get postop.... PS great Yahoo group on protein is: http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/OSSG-Protein/ Best to you! Again whatever works for you do it! Watch your labs, hair loss etc (see how protein level is, albumin and prealbumin!) Andrea, Congrats on your date hun, that is just around the corner... I am sure you are getting so very excited now.. I want to wish you all the best, may your surgery go smoothly and your recovery quick. For protein I use Zero Carb Isopure from GNC, I really like the Choc....also the stallone puddings are a great added protein, they give you 20 grms per serving. well take care hun ~Hugs~ Debra P

My opinion is that any of the premixed ones taste AWFUL. I went the whole route of ordering online for protein powders and ;paying all that shipping and handling and over time discovered that I could get stuff right here that was just as good. My favored shake is GNC 100% Whey Protein in chocolate. It tastes like Quik and I can make it warm or cold. I mix mine with half milk and half water. Anything you taste now is not going to taste the same after your surgery. the good thing about GNC is if you buy it there and you do not like it, they will exchange it. And do read labels - she was right about CIB - I liked her name for it! The Stallone Pudding is pretty good and will go down easy when you are on full creamies. A whole can will be too much at one sitting, but it will help you get in that protein! Good luck and God bless!
