Google the Hilton Garden Inn in Staten Island, too. Otherwise, try hotels in Jersey City or Secaucus NJ. Both are close to Manhattan. I hope it is not too late for you to get a reservation.
There is a nice restaurant in Weehawken, NJ called Arthurs Landing. They have a ferry service that will take you into Manhattan right from the restaurant. Call them to see if they have any seatings left too. You could have dinner there, then ferry over to the city.
Have fun. SH
pay the arm and the leg if its your first new years in new york city..... eat off the streets and dance as if no ones watching ..... just trashing around times square is one of my favorite things to do and oh ride the 7 passenger bicycle .. and of course you can take a carriage ride thru central park or just around times square.... have a blast in the most wonderful city in the universe... and a happy new year to you and yours

Hey you might as well enjoy the city who cares about NJ yuk!
YOU MUST MUST MUST take the subway to Spring Street and or Grand Street and visit Little Italy! Walk down Mulbury Street and find Pelagrineies Italian Restaurant! GREAT TIME! Or visit Carmines in Times Square however this place does indeed over feed you not great for a WLS folks, hehe. You might try the ESPN zone in the times square area too an interesting spot. Geesh there are so many great spots. One place that Iwas disappointed in was planet Hollowood, it does not compare to theone in Orlando!
Have a great time
