Zinc Made Me sick !!!

I have had a horrible cold for a few days and I tought that taking zinc pills would definitely help me get rid of this cold.I did not eat much lately but I have been taking my vitamins and I drank lots of liquids but half an hour after I took the zinc I had this rumble in my tummy and then I was nauseous and had to quickly get to the bathroom to thow up.Of course nothing is complete without diarheea so that's how I spent most of my night.Not to mention the teeth chattering chills I had.My oldest daughter looked at me strangely when I went to tell her to quit talking on the phone so loudly while my teeth were chattering and I was freezing.Of course it was like 75 in the apartment at the time and she told me it was hot in there.Oh,well this went on until 3:30 in the morning and then I was finnaly feeling better so I fell asleep.This has never happened to me before.Does anyone else had the same reaction to zinc ?
