Why is it....

the more I read the Main Message board the more upset I get? I can see why new people to the site are afraid to ask questions, especially after I read the answers that are giving but some of the others on the board. If someone asks a question regarding sugar, and YOU can not eat sugar because of dumping, WHY must YOU be nasty to the person and basically tell them that they should forgo the sugar because they had this operation for a reason?? Maybe if we DIDN'T deprive outselves (like "normal" people) of a cookie or a piece of candy a rare once in awhile, we wouldnt have been in the situation where we had to have surgery to save our lives!! Yes, I try and stay away from sugars and sweets but i will not deprive myself, for the rest of my life of any treats. I will just have the little piece, once in a blue moon rather than the BIG portions all the time, like way back when!! I have NEVER been part a community so intolerant to people asking questions. It makes me sad that we ALL complained about how we were treated before we had our surgeries but after it seems we can treat people any way we like after our lives were saved...forgetting how we used to feel!! *stepping off her soap box now* Thanks for listening to my vent!! Lisa, Yeah if IT was that easy we would not needed this surgery. It sure does not change the way we think about food but we learn to deal with it in different ways. We are still human... ~hugs you~ Hun some people once they have the surgery become perfect, don't you know that by now... Debra P

Hi Lisa, And I agree that people can be intolerant! They are very much like people who have stopped smoking --suddenly they can't stand anyone who is still addicted to cigarettes. We are addicted to sugar and we were LUCKY enough to have been granted the surgery--it helps us to control our cravings--but I agree that we shouldn't have to deprive ourselves forever and completely--nor should we tell others to forgo all sweets and sugar. I haven't wanted to try Ice cream or cookies --yet! but I still like the idea that someday I may have a small piece of Godiva chocolate or a taste of Hagen Daz ice cream. In the meantime --I still can have sugarless cookies and other treats. I don't deny myself! I didn't deny myself at Thanksgiving--I tasted everything--including a tiny taste of pumpkin pie (I ate the filling only--because that's the best part). If I thought that I could never have any treats I would feel deprived--but I don't! I feel that the pouch is a wonderful tool and I have to use it wisely. So you stay on that soapbox--I will cheer you on!! Be Blessed, Marian S.C. 242.4/196.4/goal 125-130

Lisa, I know what you mean about the main board. It's like some people just want to cause "fake drama" and it's just so silly and pointless. Some peoples struggles/questions are valid(regardless if they have been asked a million and one times already) and they deserve a kind yet informative answer regardless if they are a "newbie" or someone who had the surgery 5 years ago, it doesnt matter. I honesty believe if "newbie" questions bother so many people who post all the time on that board, then maybe those people need to do something else besides read and post on obesityhelp.com web boards all day long, thats all. Problem solved. I just call it how I see it, you know? I personally rarely look at the main board b/c I always get annoyed by something I read over there due to lack of compassion on many peoples part. Oh well, what can you do? Tavia

I know how you feel,,, I like the fact that I can have 1 cookie or a taste of the pumpkin pie filling AND be satisfied with that, I didn't have the surgery to never eat fun things again, it is a relief that just a small taste is good enough. There will always be FOOD POLICE standing by though, saying stuff to us,, and when it happens to me I ask them why are YOU WATCHING me eat. One day at work a co-worker made a comment to me and i handed her a dollar, she said what is that for and i said you should be paid for watching me, you know kind of like a babysitter, thanks very much...needless to say she hasn't commented on my food intake since...... anyway as you can see i agree with you,,,,good luck with everything, people are who they are,, don't let them get to you to much,,,Jo H in NY
