When I share my decision of having WLS with some of my co workers I get alot of negative reactions.I guess its normal but it brings me down. One of them said \\ your not fat.all you need to do is exercise.dont get the surgery.// Im 337LBS. 5'3" short I'm sorry but it's plane to see I have a wieght problem. others have said they would never do that.but they have always been thin.I have had a few positive reactions from men, oddly enough. I think I'll just keep it to myself ,which maybe I should have done in the first place!!! Thats why I love this site so much. I get all the positive support I need and plenty of knowledge about WLS.Thank you to all of you!Darlene

A friend sent me this quote: "No one can make you feel inferior without your permission" Eleanor Roosevelt It meant alot to me because I always took to heart all the dumb statements others made. I have the quote on my wall to remind me that I am a strong person making the right decisions for myself. I also have a quote: "F(&^ them if they can't take a joke." That is right there next to Eleanors quote. It keeps me from beating the heck out of mean people. hehehe. Positive thoughts make a positive life. That one is all mine. Sandra

Sandra, Thanks for the reply. I love the quotes.Yours and Eleanors!!!! LOL . I guess I was expecting everyone to be as excited about this as I am. But everyone is entitled to thier own opinion I guess. I know what I'm going to do regaurdless of what others think or say.I need this tool and if it is avalible for me,I intend to use it!!! I don't think all people realize what its like to be a woman of my size or all that goes with it.I'll try not to let all of the negativity get to me.Like my daughter says"whatever". Darlene

Hi Darlene, Don't let them get to you--You want a healthier and happier Darlene--so stick to your guns! I am 5' 8" and I weighed 242--but I have severe osteoporosis--my orthopedic surgeon suggested that I consider the surgery ( he said that my bones are like tissue paper --and I kept fracturig my knees and my hip--just from the weight--I didn't fall). Most people said that I didn't "look" like I needed surgery--But I know that I did. You know your reasons--They are VALID reasons. So just go about your business and do what you need to do for Darlene!!! We are here for you! We understand how you are feeling. God Bless you and Keep you strong! I basically told the nay sayers, thanks but I am not interested in negativity, and that is me putting it politely. lol Tell them to shove it. They like you as you are because they are afraid of who you will become. Wait until you get the "oh honey, youre losing to much weight, I'm concerned." On a seperate note, I notice I am not asked to "hang out or go out" with the girls as much. Guess they dont have ol' fatty to make them look better now. But dont worry, they will try to come up with new ways to intimadate. Kind of funny though, if not sad. Good luck, you have made the best desicion for yourself no doubt. Trust in yourself. Colleen P.S. 5'2 here!! It did suck being short and fat. Now I am just short. I can handle it.

Colleen, Thanks for the reply.I never even thought that the nay sayers were feeling intimadated by the thought of me losing weight.hmmmmmmmmmmmmm I can't wait to hear "oh honey, your losing to much weight". That is pretty funny.Hard to belive that people can be so vain that they couldn't just be happy for someone who makes such a positive change for themselfs.I just want my health and if I happen to look to good,so be it!!!!! Darlene P.S. I can't wait to be just short!!!

Hey Darlene Let me give you a Guy's point of view on this, I was 420 pounds at my largest and I have lost 225 pounds and past goal. I am 6'2" and feel great and better now than I did 15 years ago, I got all the same things as you woman do like people saying "you dont need to do the surgery jus****ch what you eat and exercise more" and the normal crap like that. The first thing I told anyone that gave me all the reasons as to why I should not do the surgery is tell them that when I see them again I want them to carry around a extra 100 pounds (not the 225 pounds that I lost) and then tell me this is normal. They wouldnt even be able to carry 50 never mind 100+ pounds and I am sure that they will change there tune thats for sure. Just remember that the only person that you have to please is "YOURSELF" and no one else, but maybe they are worried that you will become the center of attention and they will have to take a back seat to you. Just keep going forward and get ready to start enjoying life to the fullest and the ride of a life time is just ahead. Hey Darlene I has been a long road that I have been on but you know I would do it all over in a minute if I had to do it and also would not change a thing along the way. It has had its tough times but most of the time its been no big problem, I have been told I am one of the lucky ones but I would rather think I just did this change of life by the book and did everything my Dr told me to do. I read where people get or have gotten sick everyday or on different foods, me on the other hand have only got sick and thrown up 3 times along this journey and all three times it was my fault. The three things were "sugar, not chewing enough on something and A Combo cracker got stuck" I also didnt get my hunger back like some people claim and have not gained any weight back like so many also do. I look at this way I didnt do all this to gain anything back and I do have to work at keeping the weight off even being almost 3 three years out. As for being the center of ATTENTION go for it as we all deserve to be the center of attention one time in out life time. I am glad to hear that you are moving "FULL STEAM AHEAD" with your WLS and if I can answer any questions for you or help in anyway just let me know OK. One thing I noticed is that we all need to talk to someone about this journey we are on and everyone tries to be helpful but nobody understands it better than someone that has been there done that so like I said if you need anything answered or to talk to someone about this surgery JUST ASK. Have a great holiday Tony
