Hi Steven,
I just read your 'hello message' and your profile. I am an RN currently pre op and like you, I feel I know much more than I want to about complications r/t surgery! It has helped me to read the post op forum on this web site and to speak with folks personally who have already had this surgery to get a perspective on the actual experience. I guess it's good to go into this process with eyes wide open, but it's also good to realize that complications are generally rare and fixable.
My surgeon requires a 10% weight loss pre op, so I am in the midst of working that. I have been exercising daily and my grand motivation (aside from the obvious) is that exercise pre op will reduce post op complications such as DVT/PE and respiratory issues.
Do what you can to be healthy pre op. At least you'll have the sense that you prepped yourself as well as possible!! Good luck to you and welcome to the boards!

Hello Steve,
I am an RN & have had lots of negative thoughts about WLS in the past.
I met with Dr. Kini, Dr Herron's partner, & he changed my mind once & for all. Do you have any comorbidities? that makes a difference too. I commend you on your first steps on this remarkable & life altering journey.
I am thankful for it everyday! Hope to hear from you often
Linda
