Hellooo everyone!
I know, that's a really sad title for a post but its good in my case...Ok so I went for my food upper GI test this morning. I ate a piece of toast. It was one of the most disgusting things I ever ate. The surgeon smeared barium all over it like freaking butter. So freaking gross.
After I ate the toast, we can all see if traveling its way down the pouch then roux limb then when it got to the Y-connection it just stopped moving. It stayed that way for a few minutes. I rolled around and everything and I didnt move. I was getting so sick to my stomach at this point. I drank some barium and then the toast jiggled up and down then slowly moved down.
I took another bite and the same thing happened. I drank some water, it jiggled then moved down. So it seemed that my food was getting stuck at the anastomosis part of the y connection. They said there isnt a obstruction there. It is a functional problem, which would explain why nothing is showing up on any other tests looking for mechanical problems(CT-Scan, endoscopy, blood etc)
So the surgeon said to take little sips when I eat now. He says not to worry about mixing eating and drinking anymore. Those rules dont apply to me. I have to eat many small meals throughout the day(which I already do) but to now eat normal foods no more mushy gushy foods. We need to see what will happen when I eat "real foods" while I sip liquids w/it. We are giving this a try for the next few days and will update him on monday. If we feel like the sipping is not doing any good or making me worse he will revise the anastomosis connection.
He says to stay positive and focused so that is where I am at right now.
I am just so relieved right now, ugh!! The radiologist said he never saw someone so happy taking an upper GI before.(Ha, well he never met me.) The surgeon says I am always laughing and that I even laugh going into the operating room and coming out. At this point, what can I do? I am so not going to turn into one of those bitter angry mad at the world type of person. I just need to move on, that's all. I can't believe in a couple of months it will be a YEAR! oh my gosh! *sigh*. Take care everyone!

Hi Mary!
I just noticed your weight now, wow you are down so much! How do you feel?? That is so fabulous, really!
Well so far I am feeling really bloated so I'm trying smaller sips, like baby ones. The bloating is kind of pushing on my second open surgerical scar while is becoming really ichy than normal and kind of painful. Oh well, we will see! Thanks so much!

Hi Carol!!
I just read your post, congrats on the date!!!! I am so very happy for you, ugh so great!
My surgeon calls this test the "Velasco toast test" b/c he has never done something or have gotten to the point where no tests/surgeries were giving him answers. I was the one who suggested the toast, he was saying eggs or tuna fi****old him that stuff is too mushy and if you want me to do this "give me a stomach ache test" we have to be hardcore about it, bring on the toast!
Take care.

Tavia,
I am really glad that they can finally put a name to your problem. I hope the drinking will help you feel better. I know that when I had a stricture (it was only 2 weeks) I was just praying that someone would figure out what the hell was wrong., not to mention you have been going through this for a year. It is very nice to see that you have taken on the bitter attitude. I sincerly hope you feel better soon.
