Hi everyone I need some help I am having a problem. I had to do a pre-op liquid diet for two weeks before my surgery. I lost 19 lbs in that two week period. Since the operation I have stuck to the post op diet. I eat approximately 800 calories a day, take my vitamins and suppliments, I make sure that I eat at least 70 -90 grams of protein, and I have started exercising. I drink at least 64-90 ounces of water per day. I DON'T KNOW WHAT I AM DOING WRONG--BUT I FEEL LIKE A FAILURE! I have only lost a total of 35 lbs --In seven weeks since surgery! the total loss is only 16 lbs ( since my surgery). In the last two weeks --I havn't lost anything at all! I don't get nauseous food doesn't get stuck very often and I rarely feel satisfied. I seem to be able to eat most foods (in small amounts) , without much trouble. I haven't vomitted and I am regular (no constipation). I have wondered if My surgery has gone wrong and If I am going to fail to lose weight. I dread going to the surgeon. I know that I haven't lost what I should have. I am looking for answers --I know that we are not suppose to compare our loss to others--but It is VERY discouraging and VERY depressing ! Most people are losing two to three times as much as me. I feel that I am doing something wrong and that my surgery is doomed to failure. I have been on so many diets before and they have failed. I would like answers. I don't feel that much different from the way I felt before surgery. I still feel hungry. I can eat just about everything (although I can't eat as much--4 ounces or so) But I am NOT losing weight! I do what I am suppose to do and I feel that I am going to be the first WLS failure ! What else can I do? Is there any way to start losing ? Is there anything I can do to feel better (and yes --I see a psychologist every week--right now it isn't helping very much). Any Suggestions ?? Anything that will start me losing??? Be Blessed, Marian S.C. 242.4/207/goal 135

Don't give up the ship! You are doing everything right. I think you have to remember that weight loss goes in steps, across, then down. My guess is that you haven't caught up yet & then you will see the weight come off. How about inches? Are you waring smaller clothes? Give yourself & your body some time. We are all here for you! DONT WORRY! if you follow all the rules all will go fine. Your weight loss is fine! AND your in a normal stall time frame so be strong it will pass. HAVE you ever lost that many pounds in 7 weeks in your life? add your preop weight to your post op weight as its all weight loss and sounds more motivating to keep on track. ITS not all easy, I had hunger right from the beginning but i do make healthy choices to satisfy the hunger and i dont ever touch the bad foods in fear ill be sick and dump. KEEP postive i think your doing fabulous. HUG! lisa 310/202/???

[offers a big hug] I felt much the same as you do. I was a very slow loser, but the Doc said much the same as what you are already reading from us: first, each body loses at a different rate. there is NO "right" amount of weight loss. Some months [yes, I said MONTHS] you may lose NOTHING, other months, you may lose 2 to 5 pounds a week. the body stops and starts according to its needs. Just stick with the program! You will do just fine!

Marian, Hun just like Lisa and Linda both said, your body needs time to catch up to the changes. Hang in there hun and it will start moving again.... ~Hugs~ I know when I drink the 64 oz of water I do well but once I drink more it does not help me anymore, that is just something that I found with myself and I think my surgeon says I should be at 40-60 grams of protein a day but I will have that checked when I go for my appt. I know so much protien can make us gain as well but there are so many different numbers that it is hard to know. I guess it just takes time for us to know what works for "US". I wish you all the best ~Hugs~ Debra P

Hi, I went through that at 3-4 weeks post op. Although the scale did not go down the inches did drop. I had my surgery 9/6/05 and have lost 45 pounds. I truly feel that the initial weight loss also has to do with starting weight. I read here someone who lost 50 pounds in 3 weeks, but they are also 150 pounds heavier than me My start weight was 13 pounds more than you, I guess we are "light weights" {{{{{{{{{HUGS}}}}}}}}}}}} Gail
