discouraged
Hi everyone,
I haven't posted in a while, been reading though. I'm on this diet to lose 30 lbs before I can have the surgery. My struggle is that even after I eat what I'm suppose to eat I'm still hungry. The craving for cookies and milk is really getting to me. I was hoping to lose about 10 lbs before my next appointment on the 22nd but maybe that is being too optimistic. I want to lose weight, it's just this diet is hard cause I'm hungry so much. This morning I had 1 hard boiled egg, 4 tbsp of cottage cheese, and 1 banana but after I hate I started feeling hungry. Anyways, thanks for listening. Hope yous have a good day.

Hi Lisa,
I did ask while I was in his office if I should do the shakes and he said that he always recommends that the diet be followed to lose the weight because it will show them that I can stay on the diet after surgery as well. *sigh* I don't have a nurticianist yet. When I go on the 22nd I will ask about getting one.

Debby,
I did not have to lose weight before but I did have to do a 6 month weight loss program for Ins Approval only so I understand your struggles... ~Hugs~ I tried these things to help me the best I could before surgery:
*Drink so much water so I would not feel that full
*Eating sunflower seeds helps, you feel like your eating for
so long but really its not that much (in shell)
*More salads, meaning more lettuce and stuff just to make yourself feel full, also use light dressings.
*I snaked on veggies when I could, thought I was craving all the bad things....
Hun I am not sure if they will help you but I just wanted to list what I tried.... ~hugs~ I know that it is so hard to lose the weight......the other thing is you know that this really strick diet is not forever!! Though you will have to change your eating after surgery your qty will be cut which just helps with you staying on course.
I know I am entering the T.O.M. days so I want to eat everything in site. I can eat more at this time also so I really have to watch it.....
Well take care hun and hang in there....

Hi debra,
Thank you for the suggestions. WHen I thought about it I realized I'm not drinking enough water. Duhhh lol... so I am gonna start drinking alot of water and see if that will help the hunger. I also gotta get some cauliflower to snack on. I tried yellow and orange peppers, but I don't like them very much. I'm gonna try some other things too. Wow, you had to do this for 6 months?! That's a long time, or it seems like a long time to be on a diet. I just pray that I've lost some weight by the 22nd when I go in.
*hugs*

Debby sorry you are getting discouraged but please hang in there....this is a very emotional joureny all the way around pre-op and post-op....but it will get better.....I don't know what kind of diet you are on.....I didn't have to diet before surgery....which was good cause I gained weight.....
try adding more salad and water in your diet.....try adding protien drinks....take a spoon of peanut butter fill up on green vegetables.....I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you hun so please hang in there.....once you have surgery you will still have to deal with head hungry....but you wont be able to eat much......
Were here for you.....just keep on posting hun {{{{hugs}}}}}

Hi Debby
I am sorry to read of your struggle to lose the pre-surgical weight. I did not have to lose weight only because I was considered a light weight at the time of surgery and could not afford to lose weight or I would not qualify for the WLS. I know what you are going through however. I have tried many diets in my lifetime, lost weight only to put it back on with additional poundage. Have you checked into Weigh****chers? This way you could follow the point system and still satisfy your cravings for the sweet things with a low fat, low sugar substitution, or even one of the WW desserts which are excellent. You might also want to try the flavored rice cake minis. I know that when I crave chocolate or something sweet I will have some of the chocolate, apple cinnamon or kettle corn flavored rice cakes. They will fill you up and satisfy the craving. You could also try the chocolate protein bars, this way you also get in some protein. Good luck---hang in there! I know it is hard now but in the long run it is to your benefit to lose the weight which will make it easier for your Dr. to perform your surgery. In no time soon you will be joining us on the "losers side". Hope this helps--keep us posted!
Hugs

I did also have to loose 25 lbs before surgery.
I started off great but then the stress of my
pre op testing got to me some. BUT when i finished
that and was told full 25 lbs or no surgery i got my
rear in gear and finished within two weeks.
I think you should follow a clean ATKINS induction...
it will control those crazy cravings your having which
i know well. PERHAPS when your hungry and needy
have a chocolate protein shake! THAT helped me
and made me successful...i followed mostly protein
shakes and ATKINS WOE to loose my pre op weight.
ITS also so much like what we eat post op (but smaller
portions) we eat our proteins and veggies mostly post
op keeping those carbs lo!
GOOD LUCK
(((HUG))))!
You can do it...and i will say two weeks on ATKINS
CLEAN induction you will loose a nice amount!
