First of all, I want to say that I have really been inspired by some of the wonderful stories you all have shared and all of the tremendous support that everyone on this site gives. I just received my surgery date. I will have Gastric Bypass (RNY) On 1/26/2006 and I would like some advice from anyone on how to prepare for my surgery. What to do? What not to do?

Jamie, Congratulations on your date. That is very exciting and it will be here before you know it. I asked my surgeon what I could do before my surgery to help make it as easy as possible and he suggested losing weight. So, I would say with the holidays coming to try to take it easy and it would be a victory not to gain any weight. Another thing I believe made a huge difference in my recovery is that I exercised prior to my surgery. If you are able to, a little walking would be great. Let me know if you have any questions. Jamie, Hun congrats on getting your date... I know it is very exciting and I remember when I got mine, could not stop smiling for DAYS.. The thing that helped me the most what making a list, writting everything down. I wrote what I needed to do, take care of and pack. I made sure I had all my protein that I needed for when I came home and stuff like that. I also would say bring your pillow to the hospital, it made me feel so good to have that with me. well I wish you all the best hun ~Hugs~ Congrats again.... Debra P 285/193/125??

I agree with Mary about the walking before hand. Mary had advised me the same thing before my surgery and so had my surgeon and everybody. It made a big difference on my recovery. I ended up having two seperate surgerys on day after another and was still up and walking right away... Even if it was in my head, it still made all the difference to me in the world. BABY WIPES!!!! You may not be able to shower right away, it's nice to have the baby wipes to clean up al little bit. And Like Deb said the PILLOW!!!! first of all it's nice to have a pillow you like under your head while in the hospital, and for the car ride home it's nice for over your belly, also for when you cough.
