Tavia,
Hun I am sorry that you are STILL going through this and thanks for calling me yesterday, sorry I missed you! I will try you back sometime today. ~Hugs~
Hun I would get a 2nd consult with a surgeon and see what they think about taking this matter further, I will talk to you when I call.
As of the "spies" you want to hear something funny, I had one email me asking questions and it turns out they lied, they had surgery like 2-3 years ago. I guess "they" just wanting to see what I would say. OMG how sad is THAT! It just makes me laugh at this point.
Well take care hun and please keep up updated ~hugs~

HONESTLY i think its not right that SURGEONS have any say what is said on here....it totally to me ruins the purpose of this board.
WITH THIS KIND of major surgery I want to know everythign about the surgeon of my choice. AND there human and make mistakes too, soo do patients...but its all part of picking the right one. I know personally another sweet NEW YORKER who stopped posting totally on this board
due to a matter with HER surgeon and thats wrong.
ALL i can say is they dont have SPIES and dont come to the local chapter
meetings and i find those to be a weath of information. ITS ashame surgeons can do what there doing and controlling things that are posted on the boards some......
((HUG)))
its not easy and im glad to date im STILL 100 percent supportive of my surgeon amd I love his pre op and POST op care so far!~
LISA
Lisa,
I am totally in agreement with you ! I have not had my surgery yet but I do want to know everything there is to know about my surgeon . I agree it is just a matter of picking the right one ! The only problem is, you don't really know for sure if this particular surgeon, whom you have chosen is truly on the up and up unless he or she has a patient that is willing to put it out there for everyone to reveiw the facts at hand ! Only then you will know if he or she is truly on the up and up !
I guess we all pretty much do as much research and ask as many questions as we feel we need to make our best choice both with our surgeon and surgery .
It is people like Tavia that are truly brave in putting out some info for us to decide on with our own personal judgment .
THAT IS OUR RIGHT !
So I commend all those people whom are honest yet still respectful in putting out there the info whether it be good or bad for us !
If a surgeon has to have a spie then ya'll know something must be up!
Would'nt you say?
I my self feel I have chosen the right surgeon for me and I also feel he is on the up and up ! I have yet to find someone whom feels differently about him .
I asked him straight out at my consult..." If I should run into any problems along the way, Will you be there for me unjudgementally ?"
Without hesitation he said " Most definetally !"
I just wanted to say that I agree with what you are saying and also feel the same as you about this whole issue.
Thanks and take care,
and
Carol

Lisa,
Do you know how many mistakes or "miscommunications"(as he calls it) have happened on my behalf. Too many to count. It is a comedy of errors at this point. My therapist says she wants to shoot her own self b/c it's all too much.
The bottom line is I am his patient-not the hospitals, not his partners, not his coordinator, not his associates, not the surgicial fruit-loops in training, not the ER doctors but his. He is the only one responsible for my surgicial care. If he wants to include others in the equation in helping me, he better make sure they do their job, tell him what is going on and do it right. For all of the mistakes that have happened on my behalf, not only did not one person apologize to me but pointed the finger at me. If there is something wrong with my "sharp narrow turn" bypass then he needs to fix it already and let me move on. I am so sick and tired of this already. It has taken over my life in everyway possible.
He says he is worries that I am becoming depressed and wants to give me an anti-depressant. Ha. That is like pushing someone down the stairs then helping them get up, brushing them off and asking if they are ok. Please.
Tavia
Can you say "I want a complete copy of my chart from day 1" and "Do you know what med mal is?"
Ask your primary care to get a complete copy of your chart, both from the surgeon AND from the hospital. They won't charge HIM for it. What you need is to see exactly what is written in there. Explain to your primary that you may need to change gastroenterologists and you need the complete record, which he should have ANYHOW.
I'm betting you may be able, then, to find out what's really going on with you.
YES!!
I think good and the BAD we need to hear it. THIS IS a very dangerous surgery and we need to know the manner of all the surgeons while makeing choices.
I personally know i met with two and i knew the first ONE i met was not gonna come near me for this major surgery. I did find the surgeon i went with and DONT regret useing him one drop. THIS BOARD should be for all sides ...we all know some people have complications its known so doctors need to face it when it happens, and allow people to vent freely from experience.
HARD!

(((((((((((HUG))))))))))))))))))
yes tavia i have been following your storey.
and i think you nor anyone deserves what your
going thru.....
YOUR an awesome supporter to all the new people on the board, the old members and HATE to know a great gal as you is going thru such!
YOUR VERY STRONG!
JUST know many of us in the NY forum
think your great!
LISA
tavia-
i'm not to sure the full extent of the complications you are having but from what i just read it sounds like you need to find a new doctor. if you go to www.asbs.com you will find a list of bariatric surgeons in ny. the list is great because it tells which surgeons are willing to follow up with other doctor's patients. have you considered that doctor doesn't know what's wrong with you. he might not have experienced this before in his practiced. you should consider looking for a doctor with a more extensive background in wls. a doctor who might have experience treating patients who have had, problems similiar to yours .
i just think you have to be open to the fact that not all relationship in life work out ..... this is true of the doctor's -patient's relationship. the most important thing is your health, if your doctor doesn't know how to help you, you need to find a doctor who can.
good luck with whatever you decide to do.
donna
Dear Tavia,
What a horrible experience for you! I am glad you feel able to share it with all of us.
I am still relatively new here, but I agree with several of the posts here. Ask your PCP to get copies of all your records, then ask him/her to refer you to another surgeon for a review of your condition. If your surgeon made a mistake, consider suing him and have the new surgeon fix it!
Normally I would not recommend suing your doctor, but REALLY! He does not seem to know what do to give you back a normal life!?!?
I do wish you the best of luck.
HUGS
