Swelling in feet and lower legs. Has anyone had problems prior to surgery wiyh this?

Hi everyone, I have been having alot of swelling in my lower legs and feet lately . The thing is , I am on 50 mg's of HTZ ( diuretic) a day and I figured I should not be expereincing this much fluid retention. I have had some swelling before but nothing this bad. It usually goes down over night but for the past 4 days it hasn't gone down over night, just a lil. I have a Dr.'s appt. with my PCP on Monday so I will be having her check it out. I was wondering if anyone else experienced this and how did you handle it? I get very nervous when they are swelled like this. I am even more nervous as my surgeon said he wants me to have a filter put in for my surgery to prevent bloodclots from entering my lungs and heart!! He said that I have very poor circulation in my legs from my obesity. Since then he got the blood test's results back and has put me on vitaman K as I have a poor blood clotting factor . How much swelling is too much ? Does anyone know ? Thanks , and Carol

Hi Carol, Sorry I don't have the answers you are looking for, but I really felt for you when I read your post. I just wanted to take a minute to tell you how sorry I am that you are going through all that swelling, and that I will be praying for you. Carol, You answered your own question. You have very poor circulation. It is probably too much swelling. Do you keep your feet up when youa re sitting? make sure you support behind your knees too. You can wait til Monday. Are you having any shortness of breath? If so, go to the ER. Do you have swelling around your waist? I'm sorry for your problems Linda

Linda, Thanks for the great advice. I called my doc earlier and am still awaiting a call back from her. She is not in on Friday's but her answering service gave her a message to call me . I figured I could probably wait til Monday too but I posted this on the main board as well and someone urged me to call my Dr. so I did. She said " if ever there is a concern such as mine , that calling the Dr. would be best " . So I listened. I am also listening to you on this and keeping my feet up when I sit . I usually do keep them up when I sit. So you think just the poor circulation would cause this swelling ? I am not having shortness of breath . So that is good .
