DO YOU GET UPSET MORE EASILY SINCE SURGERY?

I am finding myself getting upset over the simplest things--they have nothing to do with food or eating. They have nothing to do with my surgery. I just find that my tolerances for the daily happenings that we all go through are really getting to me. I don't cope with mishaps as well as I did before the surgery--Is it possible that I was more able to cope before because I could always eat something to make myself feel better. I know that I had a food dependency --but this is ridiculous! I am glad that I am seeing a therapist--I have to find something else to help me find balance again. Do any of you have this problem--and if so --how do you cope or compensate????? Be Blessed, Marian S.C.

Hi Marian I personally have the opposite problem. I have become less emotional since all of my ordeals have happened. My skin is becoming too thick if you know what I mean. I wouldnt say I am becoming cold just more weary. I have been seeing a therapist since I was 15 years old and the same one to boot. I really do not know what i would do without her. So I know where you are coming from. I hope you feel better though. Take care. Tavia

Marian, Hello hun ~hugs~ Yes I was/am going through the same thing, I seem to anger a lot more quicker then before and I also think it is because I can not eat to make myself feel better. I would think that is for sure..... If it does not get better then I will be seeing someone as well.....~hugs~ Debra P 285/201.5/125??

Marian, I find this also. I know that my tolerance for things has decreased since my surgery. I find that I get "hungry" when I am stressed. Now, that I can't eat to stuff my feelings down I am more likely to express them. Hopefully this will run it's cycle and I will start to feel more in balance again. Then again, maybe it is better that we are more in touch with our feelings now. The best way I have for coping is talking to my husband about it. Thankfully, he is taking this change in stride and he helps me to ride out the situation without turning to food. Take care, Mary 302/189/1??

Thanks --everyone --I feel a little better knowing that I am not the only high-strung in the world. I am glad that I see a psychologist --but I am also happy that I have a place to vent and to validate my feelings Be blessed Marian S.C.

I get upset at the drop of a hat. I thought maybe PMS has permanently taken over my life (smile). Everything and everybody just bothers me now. I don't know what's going on with me anymore. I keep thinking to myself that I'm finally having to deal with reality 100% now. See I used drugs 8 years ago and that was my way of dealing (not dealing) with reality. I quit drugs and then started to deal w/ reality clean and sober. Then in July I quit smoking and any stress that came up I was dealing with it without smoking. Now, I've had surgery and I can't do the eating thing, I am now totally dealing with life on life's terms. I am now learning new ways to deal with stress and obstacles. It's hard. I really wanted a cigarette so bad today! I find that reading helps. There are some good stress management books out there. Even books on tape or CD are wonderful. I get those from my local library and just sit and listen to them. My family is about ready to throw me out. It's been a roller coaster with me since I came home from the hospital. I'm positive it will get better (IT'S GOTTA GET BETTER)!!

marian- you are not alone. since i've had surgery i find i tend to get upset/mad easier. i too believe it has to do with not being able to eat away my feleings. also, i think i have more self confidence, so i don't feel so uncomfortable drawing attention to myself. in the past heaven i always felt uncomfortable drawing attention to myself, so i wouldn't say anything if something bothered me. i just would eat to make myself feel better. donna open rny mar 18 2003 282/140/135
