Feeling discouraged
Good morning all -
I'm having issues with pain in my left rib cage, up high in the front and low in the back. Didn't have them before. Had to get a CT scan yesterday to rule out a blood clot - luckily did not have one. I will hear this morning on whether they saw anything else.
I'm feeling sorry for myself because my upper left incision hasn't healed yet, and though fortunately I can keep food down, this week absolutely nothing seems tasty when I have my dinner. After 2 bites I just have to make myself eat - seems like no matter what it is, it just seems yucky. Such an odd turn around. Breakfast and lunch don't seem to be as much of an issue.
I have terrible constipation...just started using Benefiber yesterday, so hopefully that will help. If not, I'll break out the MOM. I didn't do well on water on Tuesday which I'm sure added to the situation.
And last but not least, my weight has not budged for a week. It's been helpful to see that lots of folks seems to have a stall weeks 3-4, but it is a tad discouraging. In the big picture I know I'll lose more, but in conjunction with the other issues I feel whiny about, it just adds to my annoyance.
This is my first week back at work, which probably adds to my general blah attitude.
Thanks for letting my vent.

[just sends you a big hug] It is a tad discouraging in the early days when you feel that every second is spent sipping something and the result is slow in showing. That happened to me. I was very slow at losing and my plateaus lasted for weeks at a time, but girlfriend ~ just you wait! And don't forget we are all here for you any time.
Good luck and God bless!

Mary,
Hun I know how you are feeling and trust me it does pass. ~Hugs~ I was feeling the same way with the taste not being good on foods but that really does pass and now the flavors are back, I just do not enjoy some of the same foods that I used to but that is by choice. I seem to crave more veggies and fruit now but know how important protein is. Dinner is still weird for me, I sometimes can eat more then others and then other times I just don't feel like even trying but it is something that you will get used to.
I had my time with constipation and I use 1 Benefiber chewable in the morning and it is all good. My surgeon also gave me something very mild for it if I get backed up again but only need to use it once. If you want the name just email me hun, I can not remember right now what it is but it works great and it is feels better the MOM.
You will see hun, hang in there and before you know it you will be getting back to normal with things. ~hugs~ I wish you all the best with the tests results.
Take care

Thanks Deb - nice to hear the taste thing passed for you. Just learned that the CT scan does show fluid collecting below the diaphragm on the left side...they're deciding now whether they should try to do something about it or not. I did request more pain meds...this new thingie makes it tough to sleep.
Thanks again for your support.

free flowing fluid in the adbomen is very common after adbomen surgery. It can cause you to be uncomfortable but it does absorb back into your system. I had a lot of fluid showing up on my CT-Scan after my gallbladder surgery, its no biggie but could be annoying. Sometimes pain meds slow you down in making bowel movements I have been told as well.

Thanks Tavia, that's really good to know. It really makes me unhappy to think of a bunch of fluid just hanging out - good to know it can just re-absorb. Haven't been on pain meds for weeks, but am requesting some now since it hurts so much to breathe deeply and the pain's keeping me from sleeping.
How are you feeling these days? Have things calmed down for you?
All best,
Mary

Mary,
Well I guess it is good to know and that it is not something serious as Tavia said. I hope you are feeling better soon ~hugs~

Don't stress. I've been at the same weight for a couple of weeks now. I got on the scale this morning and I'm still the same. I was feeling discouraged and depressed. Then I thought about it going I didn't get fat overnight and I'm not going to get the weight off overnight either. There will be good days and bad. I just try to keep my head up and keep living. Try to find the positives in your new life now. It does get better. Positive self talk works wonders. If you need anything, please let me know. Kendra
