Why the shakes? Is it a prep for surgery? When I had the DS I didnt have to do or take anything but not eat after 12 the night before. I remember Optifast from years ago...has the taste improved any? It was yukky then! LOL

Yes it is a prep for surgery, one week prior they want me to just drink them only with water to shrink the liver, i havent tasted them yet but i am sure they are probably still yukky!

Wondering if anyone knows -- was it Optifast or Medifast that you could nuke in the microwave and it made a muffin?? That was very cool... Good luck with your surgery -- best thing I ever did! feistyemmm

HI LISA! I had to loose 25 lbs pre op so i know some surgeons like such before surgery. ESPECIALLY if your considering and hopeing your surgery to be LAP they need to reduce the LIVER to keep it out of harms way thru surgery. USUALLY a diet like that or small pre op weight loss helps that. GOOD LUCK! ITS really gonna happen for you im so excited. KEEPIN your seat warm on the looseing side LISA

Hi Lisa Marie, You are lucky --I had to do a liquid pre-op diet fot TWO WEEKS--but I did it--and I didn't cheat once--I guess that when you want something --you are willing to sacrifice. The surgery will go a lot smoother if you do exactly what your surgeon tells you to do. And soon you will be a "loser" Be Blessed, Marian S.C.

Hi Lisa, Yikes!!! Is Right! My surgeon says I am gonna have to be on Medifast shakes for eight weeks!!! The first week however I am gonna be allowed a small meal plan with the Medifast. After that it is strictly the shakes and of course water and sugar free drinks. I wish you much success with this . You Can Do It!!!! Take Care..... & Carol

In my opinion and the opinion of the surgeon presenting at an info session where I finally decided to have my surgery... Medifast and Optifast are nothing more than another way for the surgeon to make $$$. -- Especially this 8 week example I just read about. Just my 2¢.

That could be but the surgeon is not the one who put me on it , it was the long island bariatric center. The nutrionist and NP that work with the surgeon. I didnt pay the surgeon anything. It is a way to help the patient to stick to mostly liquid diet to help the liver shrink prior to surgery.......I dont think its such a bad idea.....I am only on it one week...
