Ok, I received my first bill explanation from the insurance company for my intake session. I have BCBS federal insurance. I says on the explanation that "we do not cover treatment related to obesity, weight reduction or dietary control. You are responsible for these charges. Please refer to the general exclusions section of you bcbs service benefit plan brochure for more information." So I looked it up online and what I found was this.... Services, drugs, or supplies for the treatment of obesity, weight reduction, or dietary control, EXCEPT FOR GASTRIC BYPASS SURGERY OR GASTRIC STAPLING PROCEDURES AND THOSE NUTRITIONAL COUNSELING SERVICES SPECIFICALLY LISTED IN SECTIONS 5A AND 5C. Ok, so should I not worry here? Or should I. I talked to a representative the next day after my intake session and she had told me that everything but the nutritionist would be covered. So what should I believe, and does the Dr. office take care of these problems? I tried to call bcbs and they were closed for the day. So I had to turn to you all and see what you think, I will definitely be calling them in the morning. Thanks, Shannon Arnold Campbell, NY 257/ ? / 130ish

What is an intake session? Is it a psych evaluation? Maybe they didn't use the correct diagnosis codes. Talk to the doctor's office or whoever processes the paperwork and ask them to resubmit it. Joanne

An intake session, is the second appt. I had. It was at the Dr. office, with a group of others wanting the surgery and also, with individuals who we would be dealing with at the office, insurance info, costs and billing, then group session with the nutritionist and psych as well as individual sessions with each. I was there 5 1/2 hours that day, was very informed and very pleased with how much this whole group of people at the Dr.s office cared for each of us and how helpful and full of information they were. My next appointment is for my physical then another with the Dr. and with my husband along also. Then after all that is when they send to insurance.
