threw up some blood

Ok for lunch today I ate some more of that salad from yesturday. I started to really not feel too good maybe 20 min ago and started to dry hive. I rarely have thrown up but usually dry hive. This time I actually threw up and it wouldnt stop. Its like it emptied my whole pouch and I kept on gagging, then some blood came up. I think it was from just gagging so much that i probably gave myself a laceration in my throat or something. I feel pretty fine now just quesy. I am not going to go to the ER and my surgeon is not in the office today. I think I am just going to wait until tomorrow and tell him what happened. What do you guys think? It truly never ends. Tavia, Hun I would call the office and have him paged, I would not mess around with that. I would say wait but you are just out of surgery and you never know where that blood came from! Just call and ask to have Dr Gellam paged and speak with him. I know you do not want to go to the ER but at least talk to the Dr and see if it could be just a laceration or he might know it it could be something more serious. TAVIA.... I dont know it happened to me back in AUGUST...... Scared the daylights out of me..i got meat stuck and vomitted and blood came up. UNFORTUNATELY my surgeon put me back on stage 2 liquids. I couldnt do it i had a nasty headache......so i went to pureed for a few days and then all fine. HE said the stuck meat most probably tore something inside me nothing serious. I dont know its hard. I know it freaked me out but it was okay. If it happens again u vomit and more blood due call ur surgeon thats what they are there for. I only had some blood little and the taste in my mouth of blood...but please be careful ((HUG)) lisa

I called my PCP and he said it sounds like I just broke some blood vessels trying to gag/throw up so hard. He says he has seen that a lot of times w/his WLS patients. He says I should go to the ER so they can do a c-scan and endoscopy to make sure there is no internal bleeding. OH no. He says as my doctor he needs to tell me to go to the ER if he feels there can be that type of risk involved. He says he knows I am not going to, but at least I should see dr. gellman asap and tell him. I told him I have an appt. w/him tomorrow and he said that was fine and just until then if I insist. He said to stay on a liquid diet until I see dr. gellman tomorrow. I am sure it is nothing like he said, but it kind of scary to have blood in your mouth(and the taste, ew) Tavia

Tavia, Oh boy that would scare me....just for peace of mind...have your surgeon paged...I know you dont want to hear, "go to the emergency room," which is totally understandable, because of all you have been through, but.....please call. Janean

I called his office and his coordinator told me I probably should just stay away from salad right now b/c its probably too rough for me right now. She bascially said the same thing my PCP did about breaking blood vessels from throwing up so hard. She just said to tell him tomorrow. ps did you give a call? Tavia

Tavia, I know I'm a nurse & all, But I agree. I think the salad is too rough. I can't handle it yet. The lettuce kills me. Just tell Dr Gellman. If it happens again, I would definately go to the ER, otherwise not Linda
