Jobs and how weight or weight loss will impact it
I just had an interesting thought about how our weight issues impact our daily lives, and how certain things we have to do on a daily basis can be affected by our weight.
I am a Cosmetologist since April 2004, currently working at a spa as a nail tech. I notice that the one thing I love doing the most is also the most difficult for me. I love to do pedicures, but my body gets in the way and it hurts my back. I can't wait to see what difference it will make after the WLS and the weight comes off. I no longer am doing hair at a shop because of my knees aching, and the standing all day and maneuvering around a client was getting difficult at times.
What do you all do for work, and how has weight affected you in your jobs? Before and afters would be great to hear about.

I am a family therapist so my weight has never effected my ability to do my job but it certainly closed many door because getting a job is so often based partially on physical appearance. I got a great job after I lost 70 lbs then a promotion after I lost 100. maybe the promotion was based on my ability but I doubt I would have gotten hired at 340lbs

I work in a law firm and also my weight has not been a factor in me performing my job, just the advancement never seemed to be there!! Now that I am 160lbs lighter.....things are moving up. Is it because of my weight loss alone? Maybe because I am dressing more professional, interacting more with the lawyers/partners, I am not "afraid" to go to a meeting for fear that I wont be comfortable in the chair! Its a combination of all but whatever it is....I am a better employee for it!!

I work for a law firm. I sit alot of the day, but since I had WLS I have more energy during the day. I don't want to take a nap at work anymore. I am taking the police test in a few months, that was not an option before the surgery. You will be back doing hair in no time after the surgery. You will feel great!

Shannon,
Hello hun..... ~hugs~ I am a nail tech as well but not in the field any longer but I know how the pedicures used to be for me... eeekkkk I would strain to bend over and sweat so much, which looks really bad so I stopped doing them and just did nails (hands). I did get out of the field for other reasons but I did enjoy it some. Now I work in an office for a while and my job was not effected but I have to say what Lisa did, now that I have lost 70lbs I am dressing nicer and getting out there more which in turn makes me perform better at ALL that I do.
You will notice a BIG change with your profession, trust me. It will get so much easier for you. I wish you the best hun and thanks for bringing this subject up.
