Anyone feel the same?
I am a week post- op today, and I am just not feeling right. I am pretty dizzy most of the time. I have this deep growling in my belly that really isn't a burp, but it is like my old stomach is making noises. I know I sound nuts. I did have my first bowel movement today, which I thought would stop the sharp stabbing pains in my stomach. I know I sound like a worry wart, but I guess I am. I am just hoping that someone out there has had the same feelings as me. I am getting kind of scared.

Christine,
Give yourself a break!!! It's only been a week. You might have alot of gas. Did you try gas-x? Are you getting in enough liquid? I know that the pain meds made me feel "dizzy" or just weird. If in doubt call your surgeon...or do you have a visiting nurse? I dont think you have anything to worry about. You just had major surgery...it will take some time to feel "normal"...hang in there.
Janean
My stomach sounded like a grizzly bear for the first 6 weeks. I had a lot of cramping that was awful, but my surgeon said that was normal -- gas takes a while to get out of your system.
HOWEVER, if you are worried, give your surgeon's office a call. That's what they are there for, and it is always better safe than sorry.
In terms of dizzyness, check your blood pressure. I actually went into my doc's office at 7 weeks, because I had raging diarrhea (sorry TMI, I know). I was also feeling dizzy and faint. He said it could be one of the following:
1) Not getting enough liquid-- hence I was dehydrated
2) Not getting your protein in--(shoot for 50-60 grams)
3) Have lost weight and your blood pressure has gone down, so the blood pressure meds are too strong
4) Side effect of losing weight so quickly in the first six months
Obviously, you can do something about reasons 1-3. My cardiologist removed one blood pressure med, and now I only get a little dizzy when I bend over and stand up too quickly.
Hang in there-- the first month stinks, but it GETS SOOOO MUCH BETTER.
Hugs,
Andrea

Christine,
Hun I would call the Dr, that would be your best bet. I know I was feeling so out of it from the drugs and the gas, it might just be that but like Janean said it has only been a week, your body has just been through some major surgery.... ~hugs~
I wish you the best hun and congrats on being on the losing side.
Take care

Hi Christine,
I know EXACTLY what you mean. I had my open RNY 9/9, just a few days before you...and I too have felt those rumblies in my tummy. It is very strange. I was visiting at a friends house one night last week and the whole time my stomach was gurgling and groaning so loud everyone heard it and we laughed. I was told it was mostly just gas...and that my body would adjust soon, and it has, for the most part stopped now.
As for the dizzy, felt that too. My nutritionist suggested that I be sure to drink juice or milk more often to get some carbohydrate energy. I feel that I was dizzy because my body is getting rid of all of the surgery meds, and also the major reduction in calories. But I definitely agree with the other responses.
For me, overcoming my worries has been much worse than any of the physical pain from surgery. I get a pain here or there and worry. I have always been a worry wort anyway, inhereted from my mom.
I just keep in mind...all those who have gone through this experience (probably millions of people now) and how well they are doing now in there new lives. It's going to take some time, some adjustment, some new learning and certainly a lot of patience.
I wish you so much success and most of all, peace of mind.
Take Care
