One Year Today

Last year this time I was the surgery that would change my life and start me on my journey to a new me. At that time I had no idea of the enormous effect that my decision to have WLS would have on my life and that of my family. Everyone has gotten healthier, we all exercise, and we are all label readers now. I am thankful that I had the surgery when I did b/c I don't think I would have the energy that I have now as I care for my Mom since her stroke. I am also very thankful for Dr.Shawn Garber and the staff at the New York Bariatric Group for all they did to help me in my journey from the very onset in July 2004. I must admit that I am very proud of myself and I can't wait to see what the future holds.

I was a slow loser as well, I think I lost inches faster than pounds but it doesn't matter b/c it all comes off and it feels great. Good luck on your journey.

Hi Dawn Happy Anniversary! Today is mine too! I feel wonderful, and just hope I can lose 5-10 lbs to get to MY goal. I have already reached and past my Dr's goal 67 pounds ago. I want to ask you how you do with temptations--do you ever give in to cravings? I must admit I have fallen off the wagon at times but I am trying to get back on by going back to protein and water only. You look wonderful! Keep up the great work and I hope that this time next year we will be posting again about our yearS of success! Hugs Your Surgery Buddy----- Marianne

To be honest with you, I admit to being a "foodie". I have a southern/carribean background and I love to cook, so the journey hasn't been easy. I have learned to modify my recipes, and at times I do give in to temptations, but everything is in moderation. I don't over do anything, one b/c I would be upset with myself later and second unlike some people, I do dump. As far as you falling off the wagon, we are all human and none of us are perfect, and as long as you recognize that you are slipping and then make every effort to refocus then you're doing great. Congrats and happy anniversary

Congratulations! It is amazing how much life changes after WLS. If I had only known a few years ago what the surgery would do for me I know I would have wanted it back then but maybe I wasn't ready then. I am 6 months out and I haven't felt this good in so many years I can't remember. I weigh less now than I did in high school and that was 32 years ago since I graduated! I tell anyone that will listen that having surgery was one of the best things I ever did for myself and I would do it again in a heartbeat! Now I am looking forward to the time I can have plastic surgery....I just hope that getting approved for that goes as well as getting approval for surgery did. Again congrats and may God bless you...I know taking care of your mom is not easy. My sister, niece and I took care of my parents before they passed away and it can be very stressful. Good luck to you! 329/181/31 pounds to goal
