Hey guys, Do any of you guys wear one of these or am I the only one? You can get ones that do not "look" like medical alert bracelets. I think they have a link on OH to one place online that sells ones that are pretty. Just wondering. tavia

I purchased one a few months ago, it indicates that I am a gastric bypass patient and that an endoscopy must be used. Better safe than sorry.

I know I am going to sound really dumb,....but, why do we need a bracelet? What is it that should not be done medically to us if we have had gastric bypass? Gail

As a gastric bypass patient you should not be "blindly" intubated. Meaning should you need oxygen thru a tube the medics or whomever shouldn't just stick the tube in b/c that could rupture/puncture your new pouch.

I was told that they are not necessary if you had WLS. Rarley has there been a case of a puncture due to an NG tube to someone's pouch also they do not administer NSAIDS to unconscious people. If you have other medical issues then perhaps its necessay but if all you had was WLS personally I chose not to wear one. If you do wear one, I would get the standar one not a "pretty" one because if they look for it and its turned they will think its just jewelry. You should do what you are comfortable with but thats my 2 cents Michele 338/148/130ish

Michele, I have one and will always wear it because if just once there is a chance of puncuting my pouch I think it is worth it. As far as the "pretty" ones I have a nice band but the plate still has the medical alert symbol that they look for. There are some that are so pretty with a hanging heart but I would be worried they might over look that one. I know many people that do not wear one but I will always just to make sure and like I said it looks nice. Thanks for sharing your views, that is what makes this board so awesome. ~hugs~ Take care Debra P 285/217/125??

> Those are the ones I mean, not the ones that look like charm bracelets. I have one that has a nice band and I also have a necklace. I know the chance of someone sticking a NG tube down and poking a hole is slim but there is still a chance. When I was in the ICU and I went into full respitorary failure I lost conscienious. They stuck a NG tube in my nose and put the respirator down me while I was out. Obviously they were aware that I was a Gastric bypass patient so they needed a surgical resident to put those in me b/c they didnt know. They needed to cut them down but didnt know how much. I also had my surgeon put one in before my second surgery but I assume he knew what he was doing. uh, i hope. Tavia
