pulmonary embolism

I do have one more worry/fear/paranoia that is really driving me crazy!! I am so afraid of a pulmonary embolism that I am thinking about it almost constantly. I am wearing my anti-embolism socks always, walking almost every 2 hours, if not more, and doing feet/ankle stretches, and I am still worrying. At night when I wake up...I immediately get up and do some laps up and down the hallway. Yep...I'm really paranoid. My brother lost his mother-in law 3 years ago to this. She was much older than I...much heavier than I and I know she did not move very much after her surgery...so I know I am different than her but sheeeesh...I'm scared. Does anyone have any info about it...what has your doctors said? Do you know how frquently I should be walking. ? Thank you so much again for you wisdom and support...I love you all so much!!! God Bess you all.

I thought about that also after the surgery, but not to the extent you are. The hospital said to walk around every 2 hours, and then when I got home to walk every 2 hours during the day, but I could sleep through the night. And by walking she said around the house and then up the block and then after a week around the block....and so on....and then before you know it, you'll be a month into it....and exercising regularly. hope that helps a bit.

Karen, Hun I thought about it also but I just walked when ever I got the chance, even during the night. I was not sleeping all that great since laying in one direction is hard for me so I would get up and walk around then go back to sleep. It helped with both. My surgeon and at the hospital said to walk every 2 hrs and if I did not have those leg things on them move them around and move the ankles. I wish you the best hun ~Hugs~ Debra P 285/220.5/125??

I had a PE while I was in the hospital. One of many complications. They put in a greenfield filter and I was on a ventilator. (if you are really bored I wrote about it in my profile) I am fine now. However I am facing hernia surgery and have to admit I am TERRIFIED about it. I plan to have a tummy tuck since they are cutting my stomach yet again. It is an awful fear and one we all risk. We knew that going in. I consider myself one of the lucky but it is always in the back of my mind too. Mary

First karen I'd like to say Hi to my neighbor..almost..I'm in Hornell. Not far from you. Secondly, I had a blood clot..didn't move to my lungs but I had complications 3 days after WLS that caused me to be off my feet for almost 48 hours total and then they messed up my shots in hospital so I truly believe that is why I got a blood clot. They are hard to get honestly. Keep walking every 2 hours during the day and sleep at night. You will know if you have a clot trust me and treatment is there if so. Relax..You are doing great! My MIL has had about 4 surgeries on her knees and legs while on coumadin for a clotting disorder and she's never had any problems and she doesn't move any more than they make her. Do you go to a support group?? There is one at St. James Hospital on the 3rd Wed. of each month at 7 p.m. cafeteria conference room..if you want to come..i'm almost always there. Faith -120
