Anybody out there from Rochester
Hi. I've been reading (and replying occasionally) for awhile but have not seen very many people from the Rochester area - is there anybody from Rochester out there? I am almost 4 months post-op and seem to be stalling aroung 58 lbs? Is this "normal"?
One thing I'd like to tell all those who are pre-op - it will be so worth it - I would have the wls all over again tomorrow if I had to.
Just want to let you know I think you're ALL doing a great job and enjoy reading all the information you're providing.
Hi Cindee! I am from Rochester. I had surgery with Dr. Boss on 11/15/04 and am down almost 140 pounds. I am teetering right about 200 and cannot wait to get over that milestone. I keep losing and gaining the same 3 pounds for the past 3 weeks, driving me nuts!!! The weight loss is wierd for me. I will go 2-3 weeks not lose anything, maybe a pound or two, then bam on the 4th week I drop alot of weight. Before it was more but things are slowing down now so I only lose like 5 pounds in that big drop, but that is okay. I would like to lose about another 35-40 pounds. The old demons are coming back and I am trying very hard to fight them, damn they are strong!!! I have come to the conlusion I can no longer have a bag of chips in the house because I will eat them! I threw away part of a bag today because I was mad about eating them. That is okay though. The emotional baggage is still there and is hard to fight. I am in the process of looking for help with that part. Good luck with your weight loss. Do you ever go to any of the support groups? One at Park Ridge I am going to tonight. It seems to help me.

Hi - I live in Rochester and had my surgery 03/08/05 with O'Malley - just over my 6 month anniversary - 102 pounds!!!! You are so right - I would do it again in a heartbeat - was 328 now 226 in 6 months!!!! They call me Ms Diva at work now because of some of the new clothes i am wearing - have lost 48.5 inches - and i have to give CURVES gym their due, too - I would reccommend CURVES for any by-pass patient - their program really is tailored for us gals - is easy and you get results - fast - wasnt soo eary the first few weeks couldn't do the 2 circuits but if you keep going and doing it in about 3 weeks you will be a pro at it - I tried several gyms after surgery but only CURVES have the caring staff and the program that really suited my needs - think I will be a lifer with CURVES. I am now looking into a plastic surgeon for my tummy tuck and breast reduction - wish insurance would cover full body lift. If you have any info would appreciate it. But there are plenty of people I know in Rochester who have had the surgery - one girl I work with had hers on 08/29/05 with Dr Boss - can't wait to see her. And the place I work - big call center - I know of 15 people at least who have had surgery with Boss or O'Malley. My ex hubby is having his 11/04/05 with the new guy in town Dr. Galvin. You aren't alone - and yes you do hit walls - I was stuck at 260 for weeks and gained and lost the same 7-10 pounds for whole month - but understand is normal - your body can't make up it's mind what it wants to do - so keep hanging in there - wow you are at 200 already - thats my next big goal - 26 pounds to go - can hardly wait - you go girl!!!!

Yes I have been going to Curves since about 2.5 months out! It is AMAZING how good it makes me feel! Which Curves do you go to? The inches just seemed to really melt off once I started working out and now I cannot even imagine NOT working out. When I go on vacation, sure I take a break but I get right back into it as soon as I come home. You are doing great on your weight loss, keep it up! The scale this Am said 199 for me, we will see if it stays that way on Tuesday my "offical" recording day for the scale!!!!!

Hi Janet
I go to the Mt. Hope Ave Curves - but if I'm going to my daughters, then I will stop in the Brockport curves and if the MT Hope one is closed on a holiday Saturday, then I will go to Winton Rd. I LOVE Curves - i was about 10 weeks out and 284 lbs ( was 328 on the day I was released from the hospital on 03/11/05). I go for my offical weigh in tomorrow or Tuesday - which ever day I weigh less - lol my scales say 225 right now - I thought I would never be happy to admit I weighed 225 lbs - but thats 103 lbs lighter than I was 6 months ago!!! I have lost over 48 inches and my bmi is down from 55 to 40 - I work out 5 days a week when I get off work and do double sets - double the time on the machines from 30 seconds to a full minute and if the gym is empty which often is when i go on monday morning - my day off - I do tripple time on the machines - I can't believe the results I am seeing and I know that I would not have lost the inches I have if I weren't working out on a daily basis. Which Curves do you go to - maybe we can hook up sometime and work out together.

I go to Winton Rd. Curves. It opens at 6:30am every day M-F so I am usually there at 6:30am. I go before work because after work I was making tooo many excuses!!! It's pretty crowded so I usually can only do the 30 seconds per machine, but I usually go around 3 times instead. I figure either way it's still doing a good job. Maybe we could meet up some time! That would be fun.

Hi. I'm not from Rochester, but not that far away. I live in Fulton, but am traveling to Rochester tomorrow in fact, for my nutrition consult. I am going through Dr. O'Malley's practice.
I too read the posts, but don't reply much. But it a learning experience, for sure.
I don't know if 58 lbs. is good or bad, not having been there yet. But hey, it's only 2 lbs. from 60, and that sounds terrific to me. Hope the stall is only temp. and that the weight will come off some more.
My sis in law had a VGB (done by Dr. Halverson & he didn't have any post-op support or follow up) and then had to have a revision done to an RNY. All were open and 2nd one was done by Dr. OH in Auburn. He doesn't have much of a support post-op and the only time she went to a nutritionist was pre-op to meet the ins. requirements. Needless to say both times she gained back all of the weight++. Hopefully, I am learning enough from the dr. and from others and their trials and tribulations, that I can have the surgery, lose most of my fat, and keep it off.
I'm starting to ramble so time to finish. Good luck Cindee, and everyone else out there that is having or has had the WLS
HI Cindee.
I from Rochester and also read the post and don't replay very often. I had surgery with Dr. Boss on March 31, 2005.
What is normal? I feel that normal is different each person. I have lost about 45 lbs since surgery. It's not a lot but every loss is good. I try not to weight myself at home because I would get on the scales everyday and that would drive me So I go by the doctors scales. I will see my new PCP on the 28th and will know officially how much I have lost. I stopped into Dr. Boss' office in July and was able to use their scales and I am now under 200 lbs. I couldn't get over it. I haven't been under 200 lbs since I was 19 years old. that's almost 30 years. I am still excited about that.
Good Luck
Burt
