Empire Insurance Plan Giving me lots of trouble
I decided to call Dr. Shah's insurance liason (she'd like that title!) to find out what is going on with my submission. She told me that Empire had advised her the pre certification would take 30 to 45 days! My surgery is in 12 more days on Sept. 13!!!!
I have been crying so much Then I called the insurance myself. I got the same runaround and after explaining - VERY NICELY - that this was not acceptable, that so many other people have been approved in a matter of days, that this waiting period was a material change in policy conditions and no one had advised me or my employer of this change... that this is a health insurance company dealing with people's lives how can they treat individual claims in the same manner as one would treat the assembly of a part in a factory line...blah blah blah blah....
Finally the girl I was speaking to gave me her supervisor's fax number and name. I called my doctor's office again and they are re-sending with a cover page advising that this is an extremely urgent case and needs attention immediately. She also told me that even like this it may take 30 to 45 days.
I don't know what else to do. I am crying like crazy. I checked the Empire experiences here and everyone seems to have been approved immediately. So I am now at the Why me stage. If I have to wait until October my boss won't approve time off (I am using my vacation time) because October to December is our busiest time. Other than "this sucks" I don't know what else to say... Sorry for the long post...

You do have a point, but what I did not clarify is that I am using my accumulated vacation time (which my boss has a right to say when I can and when I can not use) and not sick time. If I went on dissability pay I would only get salary at 50% and I really can not afford that.
I won't say anything at work yet tho. I will wait and see what my insurance says.
