NEED A THERAPIST
I had my bypass surgery in March 2004 with Dr. Vohra in Oceanside. I lost 125 lbs however would like to lose atleast another 50 lbs. I can tolerate a greater variety of foods now but of course , I can't consume as much volume as I did before the surgery. I just can't seem to get motivated to start dieting AGAIN!!!! I have a stressful job and am exhausted mentally and physically when I get home-that's no excuse but the bottom line is that I haven't been exercising.
Can anyone recommend a really good therapist in Queens or Nassau counties who specialize in our type of problem? I am looking for a real motivator who understands the addiction to food etc.
If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know.
Hi Shirley
I just wanted to say hello....and congratulations on your 125lbs weight loss .....I'm sorry I don't know any therapist but I'm sure someone will post and help you....
You know shirley I though about what was gonna motavate me in my journey and the truth is it had to be me....it's nice to have someone behind you but in reality I had to motivate myself....I was motivated to have surgery and knew what could happen....and after denial and denials I still continue to move forward until I was approved....so if I was motivated in the begining of all the excitment and emotional non-sense....why oh why can't I keep myself motivated.....Well I do I look at my before picture and still ask myself how did I let that happen to me and if I don't stay motivated and in control I know I can end up right where I started from....and that is my motivation....I always hated going to the gym so I never went....well I do go now and I go every night after work no matter how tired I am and stressed I am cause I have to take care of me and I know no body will take care of me.....yes it is easier to say I'll go tomorrow after a long hard day...believe me I work in a college in the financial aide dept....so yes I have those stressful day and then I have to go home and get the kids and drag them with me to the gym just so I know I did something for me today....and the more I do for myself the harder it is to say I'll start tomorrow....
I don't know if you got anything out of my little story but I just wanted to share it with you....
I wish you the best in your journey and please keep us posted and let us know how you are doing...if there is anything I can do to help you get moving today....please let me know....

Hi there!
You can try the Center for Weight Mangement @ (718) 470-4045. They are located right next to LIJ hosptial on Lakeville Road. They deal mostly with people who have had WLS.
I know they have therapists, nurtitionists, phsycologists etc all on staff there who specialitiy is dealing w/people w/WLS! I only see the nurtiiton(Emily Marcus) who is wonderful! I am sure the other professionals on staff are just as great as she is and just as educated about WLS. Hope that helps!

Hi Shirley,
I am attaching a link for Willow Wisotsky on Dr Garber's website. She is the therapist at his office in New Hyde park. She did my psyche eval for my surgery. I really liked her a lot.

I wish you all the best.
