Internal Hernia or Adhesions?????
I am 18 months post have lost 222lbs.
I have had horrible stomach pains which leave me doubled over in pains. My first attack was in june I went to the ER had a CT scan done nothing was found. 3 weeks ago i had another attack which lasted about a week in that week I saw my wls 3 times & visit to my pcp and the ER. My wl surgeon sent me for a GI series to see if it was a abowel obstruction which it wasn't. My surgeon brushed me off and gave ne a 3month script for vicodin and said come back in a month.
SUnday night the I had another attack. The pain is On my right hand side upper by my rib cage it moves to my back It doesn't let me lay down I sleep sitting up.It gets so bad I can barely walk. My PCP said it could be addeishions MY surgeon said he wont go in an d check he said anyone who has surgery in there stomach has adeishions.
i went to the ER again on Monday night... the doc gave me some meds which stopped the pain. He said he has seen a lot of bypass patients come in with similar pain . But the only way to find out if it is an internal hernia is to have exploritory surgery which they dont wanna do. So i am gonna look into other surgeons and docs. I am seeing my moms wls surgeon next week.
I have to say this tho. I have no regrets what so ever. It is a small complication.
Has anyone had any problems with Adhesions or an INternal Hernia?
If so please let me know
Thanks, Nicole -222

Hi Nicole,
Sorry to hear that you are having so much pain.
Do you still ahve your gall bladder? I had my gall bladder taken out in 98, but before it was taken out I had the traveling pain that started in the front and radiated to my back or vice versa. It also had me in pain like very bad heartburn and I couldn't sleep either and I had to get out of bed and fall asleep on the couch.
I hope that may help a little.
Congratulations on the weight loss!!

Nichole, Sorry to hear you are having these problems. I've been there! It is very possible you are having adhesions and they don't show on CT scans, MRI's or xrays and they are not seen in scoping. I have had adhesion correction surgery every other month since March. I am one of the people that make hard, fast scar tissue inside and out.
You are so right that the pain is excruciating. I have been in ER several times for the pain. Sometimes just getting the medications can help the pain which helps the situation. Other times the pain is still there even with the strong pain meds. My WLS dr. has done the testing and when it doesn't show problem feels the only answer will be exploratory which has been when he has found an adhesion which is twisting and knotting my bowel and causing the pain. Earlier this month, when I awoke from the surgery I knew he had found the cause because I could breathe without pain...
Nicole, e-mail me and we will chat about this. It is very discouraging and frustrating to have this happen, believe you, me.
You are in my prayers and thoughts.
