GOAL!!
WOW - I cant believe I did it!! I reached my goal!! I have lost 100 lbs in 10 months and 12 days. I am so thankfull to the Lord for this surgery - it has helped me to become a very healthy woman - no more cholesterol worries, no more diabetes worries, no more blood pressure worries. Who would have thought that I would be healthy and fit and running 5 miles a day??? Not me, not really. I thought I would be someone that it didnt work for, or someone who didnt use the tool properly. I guess I got so used to failing in diets that I just figured I would fail at this one too - but here I am - living proof!!
Thanks for letting me share my wonderful news!!
God bless you and keep you,
~Andrea

Andrea,
WOW hun that is awesome CONGRATS.... I know this surgery makes a big difference and I have only lost 56 lbs so far so I am so excited to feel the total of the 155 lbs loss that I wanted. I am only 104 lbs away from my goal. but I do make smaller ones as I move forward...
That is awesome that you can run the 5 miles, how did you start out? I am trying just to get the walking into a routine.
Well great news hun, congrats again ~hugs~

Hiya Debra,
Thank you I know what you mean about the smaller goals as we move forward. I didnt even let myself look at the big picture until recently. I kept myself motivated meeting the smaller goals, each 10 lb mark, and also the ones going from morbidly obese, to just obese to just overweight and then to normal. For me looking at the enormity of what I had to lose was just too overwhelming so the little goals were perfect and reachable in a quick enough time frame to keep me motivated.
As far as running goes, I started out in December (1 month out of surgery) doing the elliptical machine. My knees hurt and I have a bulging disc in my neck that hurt from any impact so I got an elliptical because it was no impact. I started doing it 3 to 4 times per week. The first day I did only 10 minutes but I increased 1 minute each day I did it until I reached 20 minutes. I stayed there for about two weeks and then I moved up to 30 minutes. In March, we went on vacation to Florida and I didnt like the elliptical machine in the gym there so I went out and bought running sneakers and a great running bra made for, uh, the well-endowed woman (lol) doing high impact exercise and I ran for 30 minutes in the parking lot of the time share spread we were staying out. I did the mileage in my van and it was about 2 miles. I did that evey other day while we were staying there and then when we came home I started running at the high school track. Slowly I increased to where I was doing 3 miles in about 33 minutes and 30 seconds. I ran my first 5K race in May and finished in 34:30 but there were some hills, it wasnt flat like the track. After I saw that I could do a bit of hills I started running in my neighborhood - doing the mileage in my car and setting mini goals along the way in 1/2 mile incrememts. I ran my second 5K in July and I finished in 29:55 - I couldnt believe I finished in under 30 minutes - it was awesome. After that I decided to add more distance to my runs and so I began adding in 1/2 mile increments and I now I can run 5 miles So thats the story on my running, lol.

Hiya Karen,
Thanks What I have been doing to help myself along is first and foremost following what my surgeon and nutritionist have recommended - lots of water - 60 grams of protein per day and staying away from carbs - no sugar, no breads, no rice, no pasta etc... I do have fruits and veggies so I get some carbs but not the complex carbs that are so hard for the body to digest properly. I also take vitamins - Centrum Chewables, Caltrate 600 Plus Chewables (Iget both at Wal Mart) and a sublingual B-12 - 500 mcg that I take once per week. It has not always been easy but I have tried to set small goals for myself to make it "doable" and to motivate myself. Also, I am always prepared - I have protein bars with me and snacks like nuts if I am caught somewhere and start to get hungry. I do sometimes eat at fast food places but I usually get a salad with grilled chicken. At taco bell I have gotten the bean and cheese burrito and pull away all the loose ends of the burrito, take a few bites and then kinda squeeze the inside up and eat it out of the burrito - yeah sounds weird but it works, lol. If I am going somewhere where I know there will be a tempting dessert I bring a small sugar free low carb alternative so I dont feel left out. I realized that this is my last shot - and I had to follow what they told me or it wouldnt work - I made the decision to make it work. I feel so wonderfull physically - I am not tired, nothing aches and hurts like it used to - I can keep up with my kids and I do enjoy what I eat. At the times when I get a yen for something I really shouldnt be having, I remind myself of all this and then treat myself to a little something I enjoy but that is within my diet - like maybe a few tablespoons of no sugar added ice cream or a two sugar free recees peanutbutter cups (the small ones) and I get on with it. Susan Maria Leach said it best - nothing tastes as good as thin feels - and I agree.
I am praying for success for you on your journey to being healthy! Let me know if there is any way I can be of help to you.
God bless you and keep you,
~Andrea
Andrea,
Congratulations on reaching your goal. You and so many others on this site are inspirations to me. I'm a lurker who usually just reads but doesn't post but hearing your news made me decide it's time to change. I know what you mean about diets never working for you, it's hard for me to believe that I'll ever reach that 100 lb mark. (I'm 3 months post-op and have lost 56 lbs so far.)
Hats off to you and thanks for sharing your news.
God bless you too,
