Plastic Surgery
Hello to all of my NY friends!
I am wondering how many of you felt the need to have plastic surgery after your weight loss? I am HOPING that I will not need any and have been drinking lots of water and REALLY lotioning up my skin everyday to help with elasticity. Just wondering what your thoughts were.
Oh, I am also planning on joining a gym and REALLY exericising post-op.

erin-
i lost 142 pounds and look like a prune. i am going for a consult at the university of penn next month. i don't look bad with my clothes on, most people comment that i'm lucky that i don't have a lot of hanging skin. but it still bothers me, how i look without clothes on. i want to have a tummy tuck and a thigh lift. oh i might add i exercise and have a physical job, so i think that help somewhat.
good luck with you upcoming surgery.

hey Erin,
I had wls 18 months ago. and have now lost over 220lbs. I am 28 years old. When I first had wls, i never thought i would need PS. But as time went by I figured I have come so far I owe it to my self. Much like WLS PS is a personal decision. But i myself have come to realize that PS will make all the difference.
best of luck to you,

Howdy !! Well......for me , like Nicole, I have lost over 220 lbs also, and let me tell you, there is skin everywhere. When you master the art of tucking ur breasts and belly into your clothes, I think at some point you come to the realization that there MAY be a need for PS.
I think it really does depend on how much you have to lose, If its a 100 or a bit more, your chances of needed plastics MAY be smaller than someone with a 200 or larger WL.
I think its more of an inner thing. perhaps you can lose the weight and feel alright with the skin, Honey, no amount of water, lotion or exerise will limit the excess skin...( at least I dont THINK, I may be wrong).....you lose the weight soooo rapidly, that it cant catch up to the rate in which you lose.
For me, I always felt the plastics would just be a PART of this journey. Umm the scary painful part, that in the end will have the ugly duckling exit as the beauitful swan. I go for my PS consult Tuesday the 23rd.I will admit, I am a bit scared, wondering when there will be the moment Ill be happy with the results. I never came into this for the beauty of the body, but moreso for the health. I doo see all the skin and know that it needs to go.......but, at the same time, I dont want 10 procedures to get it all off ( LOL) I just wonder if there is a point we ever really loveeee our bodies.....LOL Ya know a mole here a scare there....a fold of skin here and there.......I dunno.......anyways.........its early and Im rambling !!!
I think your doing great in all your prep work as far as the lotions....waters.......ect.......and It may work for you !! I hope it doesss. Good Luck on your big upcoming date !! I know as the days draw closer you will have soooo many emotions pump through ya.....make sure ya come here and get all the support ya need !! There is sooooooo much here !! Good Luck !

Hi Brenny I read your post and just smiled at how you could of been talking about how I felt about my journey between WLS and PS, I also remember when you were first starting out and you have done such a great JOB. Now as for the PS and all the pain and scars I can tell you for me it was no big deal and the pain was almost nothing at all, (it was a one day surgery in by 6am out by 6pm) I walked my 4 miles the next day rode the Harley at day 9 and drove across this great country of ours and back 4 weeks later. My scars are nothing and have faded so well but I think the Dr that is doing it makes all the difference in the world. I have seen a few other WLS peoples scar and they look so different than mine and if I seen theres before I would of had to think twice about doing it. Anyway good luck on your upcoming date with the Dr and if you want to ask anything go for it or see a few pictures of before and after my first PS and my almost faded scar let me know and I will e mail them to you.

Hi Erin and let me tell you a guys view on this I had my WLS 2 1/2 years ago and have lost 220 pounds so far. I had my first plastic surgery in Albany after I lost 200 pounds and I had the lower body lift, I never thought that I would need PS and did everything to avoid having it but it didnt work. The skin was stretched way to much and I carried it all in the front. I had 15 1/2 pounds removed from PS and that was a year ago. I was as happy as a clam that I got that removed and looked great but now I look in the mirror and still see skin from the upper body and inner thighs hanging. My PS Dr told me he would never get it all removed in one surgery because I had so much but I said to myself I would not do this again but now I want it all off. It is a part of our journey to look the best we can so I am going for my second PS on Sept 7th for round two and I hope the last PS. I am also lucky enough to have the insurance company pay for both of my PS but it was not easy and if you are thinking of having PS make sure you document all your Dr visits and take lots of pictures EVERY MONTH to show your skin problems ( I had to show 6 months of problems for them to pay ) Anyway I am rambling on here but YES YOU will feel the NEED to do PLASTIC SURGERY after WLS like so many of us do.
