Can someone please answer my question!
Some people definitely start gaining weight after a coupla years, but whether you will or not is up to you. The whole point of the surgery is to help you learn how to eat and exercise properly. Sure it's a jumpstart, but don't rely on the surgery to "fix" your problem...it's only a tool! Any doctor will tell you that after 2 years, your body usually adjusts to the surgery and it's not as effective anymore.
I don't ever plan on gaining my weight back! I made a promise to myself to learn to eat right and exercise regularly, so that when my body does adjust I won't have to worry about blowing back up!
Hope this helps! Let me know if you need anything else!

the surgery is only a tool. I am 10 months out and I can now eat more than I could 3 months ago. You need willpower and need to use your tool and make sensible choices when it comes to eating. The first year is when you learn new eating habits, after that is when you need to use the new eating habits you gained. exercise is also a big part of maintaining your weight once you have lost it
If you are worried about this, you might want to look into the other weight loss surgery, duodenal switch, which doesn't seem to have as big a problem with weight regain, perhaps because they remove 3/4 of the stomach (not just staple it, take it out). They take out the part of the stomach that makes the hunger hormone, gherelin. I had this about 6 months ago and I'm down 98 lbs, and I can say I am never hungry. I have to remember to eat (never a problem in the past!!). At Cornell, Drs. Gagner and Pomp have quite a record with the DS. Look at www.duodenalswitch.com and at the DS board on this site.
Good luck! Nancy
