Hi Guys. Another day another setback. I cant believe it. I went to see my Surgeon and do my Pre-op and was told by Surgeon that I gained 20 lbs abd he will not operate until I lose it. So my Surgery is pushed back 2 weeks. I will do the Atkins for a month until I loose the weight. Oh well I am forced to fight this until the end. Louis

Hi Louis, we share the same surgeon, Dr Herron ..i went today to see Amy the nutritionist..she was the last of my pre-op consults before they send out all the papers to insurance company..Anyway i first saw Dr Herron in March and after that time, i too quit smoking and when Amy took my weight today....ACKKKKK a 26 lb weight gain!!! so although i didnt get to see Dr Herron today i kinda figured this would postpone my surgery date till this weight was lost..now i'll have to think of a quick weight loss fix so that if he calls with a date..i will have lossed a few pounds..I will keep my fingers crossed for you...good luck! Louis, I'm sorry to hear that you hit another setback. I can relate to gaining weight before surgery -- I gained about 12 lbs myself -- the stress from the uncertainty is enough to make anyone gain weight and for those of us who are emotional eaters, watch out. But please don't let this drag you down. Wake up tomorrow and focus all of your energies on losing the 20 lbs -- I know you can do it!!! Use every distraction, every motivational tool, and every friend you have to get you through the next couple of weeks so the weight melts off. Take it one hour at a time if you have to.. but you will succeed. Oh, I saw that you were going to do low carb. If you go to Fittv.discovery.com and click on Blaine's recipes (or Blaine's something) you'll find some really good food. I've tried some of his recipes and they are tasty, filling, and low carb. They take a bit of work (cooking wise) but they are really worth it. The low carb pizza and the monte cristo sandwiches are excellent! Good luck to you, Hon. Hugs, Lisa Z.

Hi Louis. I, too, had a surgery setback today. I was scheduled for the 16th also, but had my endoscopy done this morning and found abrasions in my stomach that could lead to ulcers! So, 6 weeks of Nexium for me and then a re-scope and then I can have surgery. I realized that these doctors really are looking out for us and want us as healthy as we can be before surgery. Good luck with this weight loss...you can certainly do it!

Dear Louis, I really think you should try someone else...your doctor is way to conservative..I work in healthcare and had the surgery done 4 weeks after my consult. Didn't have any complications, had open gastric and returned to worked in 12 days......i had respiratory, sleep apnea, high blood pressure and orthopedic problems...........good luck to you

Louis, Hun I am sorry you have yet ANOTHER setback... I know how much you want this done, as we all did and it can get upsetting when it does not work as planned. Hang in there hun and get yourself on a plan to lose, I wonder why 2 weeks? How much does he expect you to drop in 2 weeks time? Shessshhhhh.... Is there another Surgeon that you might have in mind to try since you have all the testing done already? It might be better for you to look into that, just an option hun. ~hugs~ For some reason this is taking its time and who knows why that is but you have to believe there is a plan for you out there! Ok I will stop getting all silly on ya... Hang in there my tummy buddie... Debra P

Hi Louis, I'm sorry to hear about yet another setback. I am starting to wonder if you consulted any other surgeons? Perhaps it's time to look elsewhere. From the entire process of seeing the surgeon and all the clearances to getting a date was under 3 weeks. My surgery will be on Wednesday witha great surgeon with many years of experience and training. He is known throughout the world and I believe he is great ...well so far. I'll let you know after Wed. for sure...LOL. Stay positive and concentrate on making your goals and dreams a reality. Rose

I'm sorry to hear this Lou. It's the first time I've heard of a surgeon postponing surgery because of a weight gain. Guess you couldn't talk him into still doing the surgery. I know from experience how disappointed you must be. You're in my prayers. Joanne

Sorry your surgery was postponed. I just got done with my pre-testing on Wednesday. Dr. Kini's office has stressed to me (from the beginning) how important it was to try to lose weight, especially not to gain any. The reason is because when you lose weight, your liver shrinks. That makes it easier for the surgeon to do laparoscopic surgery. When you gain weight, it makes your liver very fatty. It can cause your surgeon to puncture organs during the surgery. It is for your benefit, that it was postponed. You have a great surgeon, trust what he says and does. I did Atkins once and lost quite a good amount of weight. Just try your hardest, I am sure you can do it. You will have your surgery in no time.
