I was so excited yesterday about getting my date! I had my endoscopy this morning and Dr. Holiver found some abrasions on my stomach and he said they could be indicative of that bacteria they look for or the beginning of an ulcer. So, he put me on Nexium for 6 weeks and then I will be re-scoped and can have my surgery then. So, it's looking like it will be the end of September for me. I am upset, but I want to make sure that I am 100% when I go into surgery. Sure this is a setback, but there's nothing I can do about it. I REALLY wanted to have this done before I went back to work teaching in the fall, but I will deal with that. People tell me that the healing time with laparascopic RNY is fairly short, so hopefully I won't need to take too much tim off! Oh well...feeling sad.

Not just with laparoscopic. I had OPEN and was back to work within two weeks. The waiting time was the absolute worse, but kinda reminds me of being a kid on the first of December - its only *how many* days til Christmas?

Erin, Hun I am sorry that it did not go as planned but you are right about making sure all is 100% before going into surgery! I know it can be upsetting and give yourself some time to be that way but you sound like you have a good attitude about it and that is half the battle. ~Hugs~ Also he said it looks like it right? so there might be a small chance that it is ok and you can still have the surgery as planned? What is meant to happen and when is when it will happen. OK now that was a tongue twister. Take care ~hugs~ Debra P

Hi Erin - Of course you feel sad! I'm so sorry you have to wait. I ended up waiting an additional 9 weeks because my endoscopy ended up with a positive h. pylori discovery. The good news for us is our doctors are being careful, and want to make sure everything's AOK prior to the surgery - at which point they won't be able to visual those areas as easily. Wishing you a complete recovery soon - and now we can be September surgery buddies (I'm sure that's a thrill since you don't know me, right?). Take care, Mary

I just wanted to thank you for your support today. This was a sad day for me, as I am so worried about taking the time from work in September because I am going into my tenure year. But I realized that THIS is my life here and I will take the time. I am hoping that my re-scope comes out ok and that I can schedule for late September. I think I needed today to "mourn" the loss of my date in 12 days, but now I can start the countdown to my new date. Thanks again everyone!
