Hi Debbie I am a patient of Dr. Cole. I am in the beginning stages of WLS. My daughter use Dr. Cole also and she is doing great. She had her surgery in March. There are several people in here that have Dr. Cole as their surgeon. If I can help you with any questions I will try. Andrea

Hello Becky, thanks for replying, I was wondering something, from the time of your first appointment until your surgery, how long did it take? I have no insurance and will be paying for this up front( yuck). So I would think I wouldnt have to wait as long as they do to get approvals and everything. Maybe I am wrong, and everybody waits the same amount of time. How much have you lost, or am I being too nosy? Sorry if I am.

Debbie I don't think anyone on this message board is nosy. We are all here to help and support each other. It's a great board. I don't always reply to or post questions but I read it many many times a day. There's alot of GREAT people here. I hope you get as mush as I have out of it. Andrea

My first appointment with Dr. Cole was the end of February. My insurance was a pain in the a** though, so it took a little longer than I had planned. They required me to see an actual psychiatrist for an evaluation instead of just seeing Sandy (the social worker at Dr. Cole's office). My surgery ended up being June 17th. So it took about four months from start to fini**** seemed like a long time though!! I have lost 62 lbs so far. Everything is going great. Feel free to ask me anything. No one on here is nosey! We are all here to help each other.

Hello, Debbie, I am a patient of Dr. Cole. I'm post-op not quite six weeks out. My initial consult was the end of August of last summer. I was soon approved, and we scheduled surgery around my work schedule for about Thanksgiving. I post-poned surgery due to having some unexpected medical problems in late fall and over the winter. After getting those unexpected problems resolved, I picked a re-schedule date for the end of June of 2005. The office was very accomodating for changing my dates. I had no trouble and came home the fourth day post-op, able to fend for myself with only minimal discomfort for about a week. BS

Hi, I live in Horseheads and I have a consult with 2 different surgeons. My consult with Dr. Cole is on Aug 12. I have another with Dr. Peters in Scranton in Sept. Can you tell me if Dr. Cole transects the stomach? Or does he just staple it off? I'm not sure if RNY is right for me...that's why I have the other consultation. Dr. Peters also does the DS surgery. It's very difficult trying to decide which surgery is best and also which surgeon is best for me. Any information from any of Dr. Coles' patients would be appreciated. Kathy R

Hey Kathy, Dr. Cole doesn't just staple off the stomach. He connects down further to the intestine. It still gives some gastic enzymes to help digestion, it's just connected much further down in the intestine. I know for sure he doesn't do DS surgery. I think he is great, can't say enough good about him. Let me know how your consult goes with him and if you have any other questions!
