I think I'm eating too much...
I'm just over 3 months post-op and I think I may be eating too much. I have a 12 oz. can of V8 and a soft granola bar for breakfast. I eat about 1/3 cup of peeled cucumbers with 2 tablespoons of homemade vinaigrette at about 11:00am. For lunch, I usually eat about 1/2 a chicken breast or its equivalent weight in beef or fish. Then I usually have another serving of protein with vegetables for dinner at around 6:30pm. For instance, last night I have about 3-4 oz of a pork cutlet and about a 1/2 cup of string beans. AND I'm usually famished when I get home. That stretch from lunch till dinner is hard. I'm trying not to snack between lunch and dinner.
In addition to the V8, I drink a liter of seltzer and usually two glasses of water by the time I leave work at 4:30pm.
Do you all think I need to change anything in my food routine? I'm down 65 pounds in these three months and believe me when I tell you, I don't miss them and don't want them to come back.
Help me not to make mistakes. Thanks for your help,
L-
I know I am not a breakfast person myself so that is a hard meal to fit in. Also my surgeon reminds us that we are not supposed to eat and drink at the same time, It flushes the food through faster and you will become hungry sooner also it can be very painfull at times. Maybe try eating the granola bar then wait the 30-45 minutes before having the V-8 juice. I hope this helps, if certainly can't hurt. That's how I learned along the way was asking questions and trying different things

MY surgeons rules are:
Eat 3 meals and 3 snacks a day.
DO not eat and drink at the same meal.
NO carbonated drinks
No foods with more then 5 g of SUGAR ( i dont know about granola bars)
and to drink drink drink tha****er 64 ounces.
I think with some fine tuneing you can improve. MY snacks sometimes are a piece of string cheese, Cup of chocolate carb countdown milk, SF pudding...but keeps the hunger down between meals so i dont over eat.
HOPE IT helps

Thanks for your help...
What's amazing to me is that all our our surgeons have different rules. My surgeon says, 3 meals (no snacks) and no carbonated beverages for two weeks after the procedure. The granola bar I eat is 110 calories with 2 grams of fat and 6 grams of sugar. I hate eating breakfast so this meal is a big adjustment for me. So much of this is all trial and error, I guess most of the issue I'm having is that I'm still figuring out what works for me and what doesn't. Starting to get into the exercise routine is easier that making sure I'm eating the right things...
Sorry it took me so long to respond to you. I went to a wedding out of town this weekend. And the best news is that for the 1st time, I didn't overeat to the point of nausea at a wedding. The choices weren't great but I was ok...just found the protein appetizers (a shrimp and some cheese) and I ate as much of the rubber chicken entree as I could. The vegetables and potatoes were WAY too greasy for me to eat.
This is still a learning process for me. I wish you all success...
L - I would suggest tracking your food on fitday.com - you're not really eating a lot, but I would make 2 changes:
Don't drink the V8 with breakfast, have it midafternoon, it's a little denser than water and may help hold you until dinner, or have a light snack with protein like cheese or yogurt.
The granola bar sounds okay, but you need to eat a lot of protein at this stage, so I'd go for a lo carb protein bar instead of the granola. I like the Power Crunch, but there are a lot of choices at Vitamin Shoppe.
Check with your dr. about the seltzer, it might be a little rough on your pouch this early out.
