Dr. Kenneth Graniero's patients?
Ask alot of questions and make sure he is the right Dr for you.I do not know of him personally , only from hearing from some of his past patients that now come to the same support group as me. I know of 3 or 4 that now wish that they chose the Dr from our support group. They said surgery wise he was ok, but most were unhappy with the follow up care. All I can say is ask questions and feel free to call another Dr and ask his also.
Good luck I wish I could help more

I also have an appointment with Dr Graber on sept. 6th. My appt. with graniero is aug 22nd. I am not too concerned about follow up care up in Utica anyway, since I am from Binghamton. i'll probably look into a different dr here. I am kind of caught up in wether I want open surgery or Laproscopic. Graneiro only does open. Thanks for the info!
Even though you are farther away Dr Graber can still keep up on your follow up. His office will send you the paperwork to get the bloodwork done and you can go through your primary physician. If there are any problems his office will notify you and make any changes if necessary. That way as long as every thing goes ok you can keep your trips to Utica a minimum. Knock on wood everything went good for me so I only had to go to him for my 3 week follow up, then at 3 months because my bloodwork came back low on some things so he requested some more labs and that I come in so he could make sure I was doing ok. Then again at 6 months I had to go back to make sure the bloodwork was better from the 3 month time. From this point on I should only have my yearly appointments as olong as all goes well. I work with girls that live farther away and they have their primary Dr do the bloodwork that Graber requires and just have the results sent to him, as long as it is ok you won't even need to go in.
Hope this helps

Hello Bonnie!
I had Dr. Graniero for my surgery(8/26/04). He is a wonderful Dr. He will answer any questions you may have and he "tells it like it is". I have had absolutely no problems w/ this surgery, whatsoever. Dr. Graniero has also performed my cousin's surgery in May. Dr. G has been a cardiothorasic surgeon for over 20 years, he's wonderful! His staff is the best, they put in all paperwork for you. The Dr. is very strict about the rules you must follow prior to surgery(ie:loss of 5% of body weight, liquid diet, etc...) I have never met Dr. Graber, but I have spoken to some of his patients before, there is a great deal of inconsistancy between the 2 Dr.'s methods; I was told by one of his pts. that they were allowed to eat mashed potatoes IN the hospital after surgery vs. being on a liquid diet for the first 10 days to allow your new pouch to heal. I have also heard other things from others, I am not trying to discredit Dr. Graber in anyway, just letting you know that their are similarities in the surgeries and differences in the Dr.s. I hope I have helped somewhat. Natalie
Bonnie,
Is the reason you are going due to the MVP insurance that University Hospital in Syracuse does not accept? I can't remember. I know that shortly the docs at the bariatric center will be working out of Crouse as well. You should check into this if MVP is accepted there. Just a suggestion, if Syracuse is closer for you. Debra
