How much time?

Hey all.. I was wonder, and I know for everyone it is different.....but for those that work, how much time did you take off after surgery? My surgery date is Aug 5th a friday and I told my office that I should be back Aug 15th a Monday...I honestly dont know just how long I will be out of work but I thought telling them only a week would be fine for now. My job isnt strenuous..I sit at a desk, my brain is what is worked hard. What about disabilty? Did any go on disabilty for this and how long do you have to be out of work to go on it? Hi Tanya, I'm still pre-op and I also have a desk job.. my surgeon said that it depends on the person and how well you feel after surgery, he's had some patients who've had open rny and returned to work in as little as 10 days.

Tanya, Honestly everyone is different, but me personally I could not have gone bac****il my 3rd week out. I went on short term disability for 6 weeks, but I truly only needed 3. I also have a desk job, but still could not get out of bed on my own for about 2 weeks....omg and sneezing was terrible. My Dr. told me he has had people go back at 1 week. The maximum for short term disability is 6 weeks, and I dont think there is a minimum. Janean

Tanya, I was out for 5 weeks with and open RNY. I had the time coming so I took it. I work in an office also but am up and down all day. I could have gone back comfortably in 3 weeks but took the entire time. I was on short term disability so finances really didn't take a hit. Where I work the disabilty starts after you are off three days. Hope this helped Lori 351/235/150

I had surgery on Monday March 28 and returned on Thursday April 7th, which was 10 days post op. It was not so bad, I was tired but when I got home I took a nap.
