Women's 5K in Rockland County
Hi all,
I ran my second 5K race this morning and I did wonderfully! It was a benefit for the Rockland Family Shelter and only women could enter. I finished in 29:55 seconds averaging 9:39 per mile. That is a major all time best for me. I usually average 11:00 per mile, but that is with hills and the course the race was on today was completely flat. In my first 5K I ran back on May 21 I finished in 34:33 averaging 11:07 per mile so I have improved greatly over the past month and a half. I am excited and looking forward to my next race. I hope to increase my training runs to 5 miles (doing 4 now) as I want to run in a 5 mile race on September 10.
Did anyone else run in this race? Anyone else doing any racing? How is everyone's exercise regimine going?
God bless you and keep you,
~Andrea

Andrea,
Wow - you made a great time. I am going to do the Corporate Challenge (3.5 miles) in Long Island on 7/26. I am really just getting to where I can jog more - today I went for 25 minutes straight at about a 14 min mile.
Other than walking/jogging I've been doing weight training (which I love).
Congratulation on being so close to goal. I'm sure you will have no problem getting your training runs up to 5 miles!

Hiya Mary,
Where on Long Island is that Corporate Challenge? My mother and sister live in the Smithown area.
It is good you are starting off slow. This way you can always go further and get faster, but if you start off fast and do too much, you can get injured and then be out of any kind of exercise for a while. Slow and steady is the way to go! (at least that is what my husband says and he is an elite runner - started out on the long distance track team in high school and is running better than ever today at 41 years of age)
God bless you and keep you,
~Andrea
Andrea,
The corporate challenge is at Jones Beach.
I am trying to take it slow and steady. It is so exciting to be able to do more since the weight loss - that I want to push myself. I have been holding back because I have two heel spurs on my right foot and achilles tendonitis. Right now I have them under control with stretching and I got orthodics from the podiatrist. I don't want them to get worse and interfere with my ability to work out; so I am building up gradually.
Wow - that is great about your husband - you have your own coach right at home.
Take care,
Mary

Wow Andrea - that is amazing! You should be proud of yourself!
I did the Chase Corporate Challenge a few weeks ago. I walked the 3K race and huffed and puffed and nearly cried halfway through but I made it!!! Most of my co-workers (who are in shape!) ran but I was determined to finish even though it took me 1:23:43!!! Next year (post-op) I hope to run!
Congrats on your race and your wonderful weight loss!

2 more days!!!
Dee,
What a great accomplishment to finish the Corporate Challenge pre-op.
Any exercise you've done will help you in your recovery. I think it made a big difference for you.
Best of luck with your surgery tomorrow. It is wonderful to have these tools available to us to help with the terrible battle to lose weight.
